Can any GTS owners answer a question that has been bugging me lately.
When you are idle and you flick on the PSE switch, do you hear a difference in sound?
Reason being, is that in my GTS, there was a distinct difference in exhaust sound when turning on/off the PSE when idling in my garage or traffic lights etc.
After i took it for its first service (15000kms), there is now no difference in the tone/loudness of the exhaust when idling.
I took it back to the dealer and they tested it and stated that all was working as intended, and that you only hear the difference in sound after around 3000 rpm or thereabouts.
This is contrary to what i experienced for the year that i have had my car. (Dealer said that maybe the newest software update during the service changed things and there might have been an issue with my PSE from the start).
Not necessarily apples to apples, but in my old C4 there was always a distinct sound difference when i hit the pse button. Even my turbo sounds different when I hit the sport button. My wife doesn't have PSE on her Cayenne, but there is also a sound difference when you hit the sport button in it.
So just picked up a new 16 Cayenne GTS and had in depth discussion with service tech about the same issue. Turns out the new GTS engages the PSE (flaps open) sound only during Turbo Boost. The sound difference at any other time with or without PSE engaged is negligible. We also tested on 2 other new GTS's and same results. Strange that every other Porsche model with PSE has a noticeable change in sound when PSE button turned on. Probably will wind up installing Fabspeed Sec Cat Bypass
I have a 16 GTS and the sound is different with the exhaust button activated. I have the fabspeed pipes and it opens the sound up a lot. It sounds like maybe some software update may kick in the flaps on wide open throttle. Possible. I haven't been in to the dealer so I may have older software.

One thing I have noticed about the sport exhaust is that it tends to be louder after the car has been driven for a while. For instance if I start the car with PSE activated it is not usually very loud. However, if I have driven the car for a while (or after I park it somewhere) and then activate PSE it tends to be much louder.
Also, there is a quick mod to keep PSE activated at all times. Just disconnected the link to the exhaust flaps. It is surprisingly easy to do (just pull out the pin / washer from the rear exhaust pipes and pull up to remove the link).
interesting...im very underwhelmed with the sound of my new 16 GTS (1 week old - about 600 miles)
Im adding fabspeed cat-by-pass this week...hopefully that will make a big difference. I loved my 997.2 with PSE and fabspeed x-pipe.
The exhaust note with PSE on is the only disappointing thing about the car. Please post back your opinion of the sound after the cat bypass install. I have been waiting for more feedback before jumping in.

This is what i was told. Shame because i much preferred to have the PSE engaged when idling. Sounded better.
I can also confirm that this is a result of a new software update they add when going in for the scheduled service.

Well that sucks. the bypass pipe does sound good and I am glad i got it but to only have the flaps open on wide open throttle severely limits the ability to hear it. It's nice to have on low RPM low speeds to hear the growl of the engine.
Can we all write or call Porsche to reverse this update or to get a future update that returns it to normal like all the other Porsches. I don't want my first service to ruin my experience so far. I don't have that update yet. I got my car in November 2015
Not a bad idea. The change in how the PSE engages is really the only thing i am dissatisfied with about the car. Why would all other porsche models respond differently. Here is the link to the current list of Porsche execs in North America. Who should we email?
I tested the car and the PSE opens immediately when selecting SPORT mode (or SPORT PLUS mode). It is noticeable, as it makes the car immediately louder at idle.

Mine is like this too but going in for 10k service next week. Hope I don't lose it. Is your's an early release maybe with original software like mine?
