Installed red-faced gauge overlays in my pepper

Decided I needed something different on my dash so I looked into red face gauges. Option A was overlays. Option B was to find someone who actually makes the foil in red. So here is the story:

1. Order redface overlays (3m stickers) from whiteguages.com. Order was a rush as I had an impending car show.

2. Package arrives the day before the show. I do the entire job in 2.5 hours. But there is an issue. The black from the original foil is bleeding through. It looks horrible.

3. I leave them on for the show (won my class ) and then go hunting for someone who makes the actual foil - the kind where you need to remove the needles. I find a guy and place the order - http://www.usspeedo.com/ (not here yet - hopefully this week).

4. Meanwhile, I get an unsolicited email from whitegauge support asking how everything went. I say fine, but they might want to advice against red on black as the black bleeds. They say, we checked and there was a quality issue with the order and that they are sending a new set for free. I did not even ask, they just offered.

5. New set arrives today and MAN is there a quality difference. My guess is their rush supplier rode the small bus to school and their main supplier knows his stuff. Anyway, +1 to whitegauges.net for their AWESOME customer service. Probably my fault for pushing them too hard

So, when the new foil-over arrives, I will post updated pics. I will keep the redface replacements stickers from whitegauges.net sent me as a back up.

Here are the pics (BTW - I FOUND THE ANNOYING BUZZER !!!! SEE THE PICS !)

Ok so from this angle, not so bad.

Oh boy, this is not looking so good. You can see on the speedo how its a bit bubbled. This was because when I pressed them down, the black bleed through.

There it is folks - That annoying Buzzer !!!!! When you open the back, which you have to do, you will see it connects with a simple 2 prong PC connector to the speedo board.

Cover your eyes folks, this is not for the faint of heart!

Oh yes, you will need a LONG extension to reach this screw

Si Pappi !!! i lovb my Yerman car ! ¡Ay, caramba!

Speedo cable clamp manufactured by the fine folks at AudiWagon

BTW - if anyone has an extra dash cover, I'll buy it. I now want to have this piece fiberglassed and then covered in matt CF.

Ok so this actually looks pretty good - Just make sure you keep squinting

nice job on doing it yourself, and to contradict the first post by cordsig79, get rid of the wood, lol, I think it kinda doesnt go with the cayenne image of a sporty truck, and now with the red cluster, you need some CF everywhere, lol.

If it is not to much trouble to take a picture of what it looks like at night, would be great.

At night it looks the same as before with exception to the orange glow under the needles (more of a red gow now). Can't wait for my new foil to show up.

Where to buy guages

Great write up. However wondering where to source the guages.

I really don't like the decal idea (the first set you used) as I don't want to risk the bubbling and bleed thru like you got.

I called US Speedo and the person there said that that they don't make red guages for the Cayenne (I have an 08 GTS).

I think Gambella makes them but don't want the Gambella logo.

Any other websites I can check out for a needle removal direct overlay?

By the way - I did redo he job. I dumped the stickers and went with a US speedo foil. It was a ***** and the needles pretty much fall appart in your hand, but it is much nicer.

Roxx, i would PM you but I just joined and haven't gotten my thread count out yet.

Anyway can you maybe post some pics and also give a little more detail on the guage removal process. I just ordered mine from US Speedo so should be here in a couple of days.

Also any tips on the gauge pod removal process. I have the trim off to get carbon fibered so I figure I will try to tackle this gauge thing myself.

BTW love your Cayenne, definately one of the best I've seen. Funny is I'm doing some of your same mods. Just did the LED's (AWESOME!) and doing the Carbon Fiber interior and engine (later this week and next), red face gauges and am trying to source the video setup for the ipod. Keep doing the mods, looking great!
