help! need cayenne turbo engine for 05

hi there, my wife's 05 cayenne turbo died... my mechanic found compression of 50 in #8 cylinder, valves okay, and did a borescope test and they say i need a new engine... we dealer serviced the ctt like clockwork, did everything, including the aluminum hoses, and never tracked it. still, the engine went kaput @ 112k miles...

found wrecker engines w/o turbos but with warranties @ $6500 (100k+ miles) to $10,000 (70K miles).

found a private party (?) in the o.c., so. cal parting his 04 turbo, asking $2500 + shipping for the motor no turbos (70k miles). very interested, but i'm in norcal, and have no clue how to have a mechanic see it, do a compression test, or other tests. any mechanics in so cal that can help me out (will pay a reasonable fee ) to check if this engine is legit?

or, does anyone have a good ctt engine for sale?

suggestions or ideas are welcome...

dave

Dave, is rebuilding the engine not an option? Just curious. Good luck man! Pics of carnage if possible.

Scot, thanks! yes, thanks to this forum, i'm now thinking REBUILD (blueprint/balance/upgrades); looking for a local racing engine machine shop. but thinking of calling Motor Meister in SoCal.

by the way, got a titanium ctt too.. on 18s with nitto terra grapplers now, but will switch to sport design 20s as soon as summer comes.

NICE!! Please let me know what you find out for the rebuild. I am looking to rebuild next summer and was curious about whats available for these engines (Rods, Pistons, etc) . I was also planning to just use a local performance machine shop as well. Bummer about your motor! I better start knocking on wood!

oh yea! I saw yours with the 18's and grapplers! looks awesome I was thinking that route for my winter setup. I want to dump my 19's and blizzaks.

i almost painted the 18s in orange and do the whole orange transyberria decal n stripe thing... but i think the wife would have kicked me out of the house by now if i did.. at least, she didn't mind me the adding the roof box (for skiing & camping gear + doomsday prepper stuff) or notice the 15mm/20mm ft/rr spacers...

i was going to rebuild and restore my R-code mach 1 this summer, then send it to mecum next spring/summer... looks like i'm gonna be spending some of that $$$ on the cayenne now..

I hope you're not seriously thinking about "Motor Sheister"??? Do a search--you won't find anything good about that bunch of crooks!
Go to PelicanParts.com search the 911 tech forum.

It's questionable if the engine can be rebuilt. What seems to fail is the coating on the aluminum cylinder bores.. and it's not a simple thing to overbore these (all 8 would have to be done) and then get them recoated (plus you'll need 8 new pistons and rings.) By the time you're done, you're looking at the cost of a good used motor (or more.)

What was the outcome? I'm in a similar situation.

One of my dealers told me when the coatings go on these engines, they go fast and serious. I gave up on Mobile 1 and went to a full true synthetic class V Motul 5-40w.

Updates? Mine is sitting in the driveway!?!

Hate to buy a used motor for 8k only to have it last 30,000 miles.

Why does Porsche charge so much for a new motor? $21k.

I bought a new motor for my 911 a few years back and it was only $8k.

Love this car but don't know what to do.

i know where you can get a 80k mile motor for $4000. Not sure if that helps or not. Or you get get a Turbo S motor for $8500 with 40k miles.

. If you DIY ..no car lift required... I took mine and had the #8 cylinder re sleeved..still havent have the time to put it back on..have all parts except the turbos...and due to work hours.. No time to tinker.
