Anyone have the icebox?

Does this plug into car only? Or can get plug into a standard socket in the home too?
I'd like a portable cooler that plugs into the socket of both car and home. Long drives on a family vacation it would be nice to have some chilled drinks in the cayenne, and keep them cold in the hotel. Some hotels don't offer fridges to encourage room service.

I found this article that seemed useful. Makes me think you'd be better off with a different brand. While I love OEM as much as the next guy, there is nothing particularly integrated or spectacular about the Porsche cooler.

Porsche icebox
That icebox is just a thermoelectric cooler. Don't expect anything to get cold in there and it will have high power draw.
You are better off with a real in car refrigerator/freezer like the Engle 14L.
I have one of these and it will cool drinks down from 90 degrees to 40 and keep ice cream frozen.

I just got one from SunCoast..gonna try it out this week end on my drive down to Florida.. Not sure what AES is, that says on the on/off switch.
Its only a frig..not freezer, and doesnt seem to have a temp control setting.
Only $180 bucks...Hope it doesnt cook my battery, but ill only have it plugged in while car is running, except for gas and rest area stops

Some notes on this type of cooler. Be sure to put cold items in that cooler or it will take a long time to cool down.
Thermoelectric coolers are designed to operate between 48 to 60 watts (depending on model) and draw an average of 4.2 - 5.0 amps on a continuous basis.
Thermoelectric coolers are designed to cool contents as much as 40 degrees Fahrenheit below the room or outdoor operating temperature (e.g. If outdoor temperature is 75 degrees Fahrenheit, the thermoelectric cooler will cool the contents down to 35 degrees Fahrenheit).
Since the cooler will be in the back one could expect the temp in the summer to be in the 90's. Then figure your drinks would be 50 degrees.
You wouldn't want to put any type of perishable food in there.

No converter unfortunately.... But even my little motor inn had a baby frig so it worked out fine
The buckle system for the cargo net is used by straps from the frig and it is cinched down nicely
It's an AES switch which I googled and found out it prevents any discharge from your car battery. I only use it when car is in operation

Well let me think you'd be better off with a different product. While i really like OEM as much as the next guy, there is nothing particularly incorporated or amazing about the Mercedes chiller . . . . . . . . .
i picked up one of these a few years back, just before i got the '11 CS, and kept it now with the '13. my issue is that the straps on mine don't reach far enough to clip on both the front and rear tiedown clips. anyone run into this issue?
Mine came with an extra strap in the pouch which I pieced together with the one that one on the unit. Then no problem connecting to tie down clips
