Just had the front brake pads replaced (not rotors) on my 06 Cayenne S. After 3 days I noticed a slight squeeking noise during light braking at slow speeds ie) pulling into garage or crawling along in stop n go traffic. It doesn't squeal every single time but often enough and loud enough that it is becoming very annoying.

My mechanic says that when you put new pads on old rotors it will take some time for the pads to break in and quiet down. Any thoughts or previous experience with this?

I had a 08. It never went away. It only squealed when I was going slow speeds when my foot wasn't on the brake.

 

It should go away to some extent, but as soon as they get dirty (Driving a few days after a car wash) they will make noise.

Just curious, why didn't you replace the rotors at the same time? Or at least turn the rotors?

 

Rotors still have life in them so it wasnt time to replace them. They just replaced the pads. I'm due for the 80k at next oil change, where I'll go back to my usual mechanic and have him check for anything unusual. Is there anything I can use to at least minimize the squeak in the meantime?

 

Another thing about Porsche Brakes. The leave a lip on both sides of the border of the rotor more like a fat U |\_____________________/|
My service said it was a racing design feature to have this lip and squeaky brakes. I think they put some type of special lube on the rotor edges and it went a way for a month or two. Changing your rotor may help bring it to the normal annoying squeaky level your cayenne should be at.

 

Apparently, the Cayenne is not the only model with the squeaky brake issue. I just read a thread by a Panerama owner complaining of the same problem.

Anyway thanks for letting me know what my friends and family will argue...that the noises I make are normal

 

I just thought it was odd that when I bought the car 6 months ago there were some minor squeaks at first. And for about a month prior to having the brake pad warning light come on, there was absolutely no noise whatsoever coming from the brakes. Now with fresh pads, not only is the noise back...but it seems louder than before.

 

I feel and share your pain! I have an 08 CTT that I got with 18K miles, almost two years ago (and pads had been replaced). I now have 35K miles and they have been squealing for well over a year. I was told when I was at the dealer recently for something unrelated that my pads and rotors will need to be replaced. Question: when both rotors and pads are replaced, does that minimize squeal? Also, does anyone on SF peninsula know of a good indie shop that could do this job? The price quoted by dealer was $2500 for front and rears. I'm in pain!! (I know that owning p-cars comes with higher maintenance costs...so not complaining)

 

I cant confirm this but when i had the same problem, they told me the brake sensor should be replaced everytime you do your breakes. Was this done?

 

whether the brake sensors were replaced or not, I'm not sure. however, do the brake sensors have anything to do with squealing? just curious.

 

Well its been about 3 weeks and 1500 miles, the squeal has subsided somewhat, but still happens every once in a while as I slowly come to a stop...as in pulling into a parking spot. Hopefully it will continue to become less and less noticeable

 

order oem parts from suncoast or premium aftermarket replacements for a fraction of what the dealers charging you. oil and brake job is one of the easiest things you can diy. at those prices seems like dealers charging you about 13-1400+ in labor. my wife had an audi b8 s4, dealer wanted $800 to do the front pads and rotors, i bought oem parts at the dealer for 15% off msrp and changed it myself, cost me $300 and a hour of my time.

 

It's the compound. If you want to stop a vehicle that weighs that much, with any acceptable level of performance, you need aggressive brakes.

You can switch this by perhaps sacrificing some performance (stopping distance, and repeatability - which isn't usually a factor for street driving, since you don't usually slam on the brakes 100% from 100mph+ at each stop light), and purchase a different compound.
