How involved is an cat back exhaust install on a CTTS?

So over the holidays I picked up a full Akrapovic Evo exhaust. The CTTS is at the dealer getting the 20K service, so I was going to get the exhaust installed at the same time. My SA calls me and tells me the original 2hr quote they gave me is wrong. It's going to cost $3k to install!

So I called one of the local Akrapovic dealers (well respected BMW shop in the Bay) and he tells me it's going to be $325. I know dealer rates were high, but this is a HUGE difference. Anyone can shed some light as to what is actually involved?

I've also left a message with Sharkwerks to see what their estimate is too.

I guess this is the reason they started calling it the stealership. I'm not sure on yours but on the 955 the hard part is the primary cats. It's definitly not a 3k job though.

$3K is too much. Even for a dealership. The truth is, dealerships HATE installing most aftermarket parts. Often times, they will overinflate the price quote to avoid doing a job altogether.....just something to consider!!

$325.00 is about right, should be 2.0-2.5 labor hours then depending on the shop hourly rate you'd get the price. For any good tech, a very straightforward job!

Yeah. The dealer was telling me the "wiring" was what was going to cost. I reached out to the authorized Akrapovic dealer here in the Bay Area and he said $350. Might be slightly more because of the wireless controller.

Guess now the question is what to do with the factory exhaust. Dealer said it comes off in one piece. Not sure if that will fit in the back of the CTTS. Also I guess I should hang onto the exhaust as opposed to selling it?

You should be able to get it into the back of the Cayenne - but i'd lay down some serious protection in the cabin if you want to try to stuff it back there.

Make friends with someone who has a pickup truck will always work! And yes, keep the stock exhaust if you have room to spare, you never know what lies ahead and always good to have a backup setup.

Have hem cut the pipes off just in front of the stock muffler and it will fit in the back with the seat down. It's tight but it will fit. And yes you should have some old blankets or something cause it will be dirty and it has to go in kind of diagonally to fit.

Did you get a great deal on the Akropvic system? Love their stuff. I just heard an M4 with a full Ipe titanium system the other day that was INSANE. Probably more than I paid for my CTT though.

Sucks to hear the news HOiYA.
I would imagine the install for the exhaust and pipes would be pretty straightforward. The only time consuming aspect would be the hookup of the vacuum operated lines (or however Akrapovik works the valves). To me, that looks like the most complicated aspect about the install.

I really look forward to hearing your system once installed. Hang in there and good luck...

Yeah this probably sounds like what I'll end up doing. Can't see transporting it home in one piece. I assume it's quite easy for the shop to put it back "together"?

Seems like everyone wanted to add to their bottom line just before the New Year. I basically got the unit for just under 20% off, slightly better than the deal House Motorsports was offering here. The problem is Akrapovic sells everything a la carte. You need new tips since stock don't fit, and how could you even consider that when there are carbon fiber tips! And then I also opted for the wireless kit to enable/disable the muffler bypass. Needless to say the exhaust and summer wheels have already exhausted my 2015/2016 mod budget!

I think what freaked out the dealer was the wireless kit and all the wiring. The local dealer (Alekshop) didn't seem to think it was an issue. He said he installs a lot of Akrapovic on BMW. The owner of the shop just recently got a GT3 so he's all into tinkering with Porsche at the moment. So I'll be dropping the CTTS off on Friday and picking it up a week later. I have to travel out of town for work the next little while.

Yes any shop should be able to weld it back up if you ever put the original back in. I kept my original muffler but (for now at least, until I go to 3") used the old pipes.

Thanks. Guess I'll have to find a away to store the stock muffler and pipes. Dropping off the CTTS today and should have it back next Friday.
