Exclamation Best Detector For Colorado?

Hey All,

I was hoping to get some regional advice on what Radar detector is best. The threads in the main forums talk about some areas using different types of radar band or lasers.

What do you guys use? Satisfied?

I live near DTC, work in Denver, and have family in Parker and Golden.

Haven't found the right 996 Turbo yet, but that shouldn't stop me from buying a new detector, Right?

The Valentine one has been an extremely effective detector imho, I've been using them for years. That being said, the Staties love to use a very low transmit power, this means that you will detect them as soon as they are on top of you, not much defense against that. You will also find the the staties hanging out on over passes and shooting laser as you pass under, I have heard and witnessed the Blinder laser jammers as a very effective deterent but may be illegal in CO.

I use a Valentine1, but it needs updating. Whether that will improve its performance, I don't know, but it's been pretty good to me so far. Generally, I am on I70 between Vail and Denver, so I mostly see Staties.

I'll also lend my support to the Valentine 1. The bogie counter and the arrows are worth their weight in gold.

I just got the new Escort Redline a few weeks ago......it has great reviews and is highly praised. I have yet to really test it on a road trip or on the interstate. I have not yet encountered a speed trap yet but look forward to it to test it.

Update...

UPDATE:
I bought a 996 turbo last weekend (w/ 10.5k miles on the clock, simply flawless). During some spirited driving last night my crappy cobra detector turned into a projectile and hit my passenger in the sternum.

At least it wasn't a female companion....

Looks like i need an upgrade sooner than i thought...

The old cobra managed to get me home from Tennessee without incidence, despite numerous sprints at extra-legal speeds, so I won't say too many bad things about it. It is better than nothing after all.

I will have to do some reading on installs / hardwiring.

That must have been some spirited driving as mine has never flew off! Now for safety reasons you need to upgrade......a good excuse to do so.....lol.

Wow...a 996 turbo with 10.5k on the clock! I can't believe how people buy a Porsche and don't drive it.......the whole purpose is to drive it like it should be driven & not resting in the garage!

Pictures???

Congrats!

I bought a new V1 last year and it works great. It always picks up staties, locals, sheriffs, everything. The false readings it gets are always easy to tell since it lights up like a christmas tree if it's actually a cop. If the signal just goes off for a second and doesn't continually get stronger, it's false. Takes a little learning but if you use it regularly you learn pretty quickly. I live in the mountains and drive 70 from the airport to Vail pretty regularly, plus 285, 470, 6, and a lot of other roads. Works great everywhere.

That mount looks like a good product, the suction cups can't handle dramatic swings in temperature. I always come back and find the detector or Garmin dangling around the rear view mirror.

Thanks for all the replies, very informative.

Would you guys recommend buying a V1 locally or ordering online?

I have some sort of integrated system in place currently, that doesn't seem to be functioning...?

I'm not sure what I have, components could be missing? I think I may start another thread to ask the "General Public".

Thanks Again.

Update - K40

Upon further inspection (It's amazing what you can learn online in 10 minutes), it would appear that I have a fully functioning k40 system installed... who knew?
I have heard of other enthusiasts disabling these systems after being hassled by police and thought I might only have remnants of some sort.

Turns out there is a **** hiding way under the dash on the center console, no where near the steering column like other installs i have seen (and where I had been previously looking).

I feel kind of dumb for not noticing the switch earlier, but I guess stealth is the idea of a system like this...
Not as dumb as I would have felt getting a ticket with the system off, I guess..?

I also don't see any sensors in the rear, but I guess that doesn't mean they aren't there?

Check out install pics, Click Here (not my car), under the bumper and behind the taillights? I had No Idea...

Here are some pictures of mine.

This picture is awful, Sorry

hidden switch, Way way under the dash

Indicator all lit up, beeping and ready to go...

I've read some negative things on here about the k40 system. But considering mine is free (already installed), I think I can live with it for now...

Nice find! Always nice to get little surprises like that when you get a new (to you) vehicle.
