Ostrich Feather Duster
Ostrich Feather Duster
I was at the L.A. Auto Show last week and saw a few high end detail crews were using Ostrich feathered dusters. I occasionally use the 'California Duster' that's impregnated w/ some sort of paraffin wax to trap dust. I find however that it leaves a film (streaks) on my black car. I 'seasoned' it by wrapping it in paper to collect any excess wax but it didn't seem to work.
Anybody use the ostrich feather duster, have an opinion on it's usefulness and a source to buy them?

I haven't seen anyone use the ostrich feathers outside the factories during the paint process. Ostrich feathers have a natural oil in them that is attracted to dust. During the painting process at factories such as BMW and Corvette, they use big rollers like the car wash that has ostrich feathers. The feathers get the dust off during the primer and base coat stage. The only duster I use and recommend is a lambs wool duster. We use at Pebble Beach during the concours to dust the cars as they come on the field and throughout the day. You can use it to get the light dust off form sitting in the garage for a while. Hope this helps.

Do you have a good source or suggestion regarding where to buy a good lambswool duster? I did a Goggle on lambswool duster and came up w/ a wide range of hits. I usually like buying products that are either recommended or used by 'pros'.
Thanks again!
