What's with all the Gloss-it pitches lately?

This is the first time I have had the the opportunity to post a lengthy response as I am usually working during this time of the day(sore knee) and when I get home after a eight hour plus paint correction I am too pooped to comment. The product Rich sent to me I have recently paid in full for, so there can be no conflict of interest as it pertains to this subject.
When Paul Dalton started getting all the pub on the web the same thing happened to him because people will always be jealous.... always, and to be totaly honest there are things he does as it pertains to pricing I am not really on board with but you can see he is top notch in the field just look at the cars he works on(koenigsegg) which I was supposed to do recently but the order for the car was cancelled (okay I am jealous ) lol.
The great thing and bad about forums is the information that can be gleaned " garbage in garbage out " comes to mind, in the end Gloss-it will be fine as long as Rich makes a quality product.
Well said!Originally Posted by auto concierge
" All I said is Rich is good detailer and makes good polishes ", that is the point to be made he is a sponsor who sells product to make money and provide customers with product. If a Porsche owner reads this thread he is going to come to two conclusions, the stuff is good and worth a try or the product is not for me and he will not try it the rest is conjecture............ the only reason anyone is taking notice is Gloss-it is the new kid on the block, I have posted here and other forums my like of Chemical Guys products also stuff I buy from Terry @properautocare, phil @ detailersdomain ect.... I would have posted more pics if I had better computer skills but always without my contact information out of respect for the sponsors here, on some other sites I cannot post anything because they are locked up by one company and nobody had better dare post or there will complaining right away. This is the first time I have had the the opportunity to post a lengthy response as I am usually working during this time of the day(sore knee) and when I get home after a eight hour plus paint correction I am too pooped to comment. Ivan,
If you do not like the pics why are you not commenting on Phils threads? I think most of us love the pics as they illustrate the written part of the posts, we are car guys here and without the pics the post is incomplete in most cases. How many times do you see someone say " this post is worthless without pics " for the novice detailers that are in need of info and pros alike(including myself) I can always learn something new, this is how I get the cutting edge techniques and chemicals I need to stay on or near the top of this field, hope you do not think I am flaming you as I have seen you post good comments on detailingbliss, autopia ect...

You guys really are hard headed about this huh? Someone please explain to me what I have to be jealous about and/or what any of the regular DIYers/owners here have to be jealous about... I/they don't make any products to compare with his...
It's a matter of too many pointless threads... if those threads were about Menzerna or Meguiar's or w/e other product, or if a product wasn't even mentioned, the reaction would still be the same... what is so hard to understand about that?
Just make a "show off" section in the detailing forum for people, including sponsors like Gloss It, to show off their work and detail jobs... leave this forum for product discussions, etc.

Ivan,
As you can see from my recent post I extend an olive branch to you because I have seen good posts in other forums... now I am not hard headed, just because you feel and others (small number) that the posts are needless does not make it so. It is about time that you post what your methods are and what you use so we can be enlightened and get a sense of what your skills are or not.

I think you misunderstood me, sorry.. when I said hard-headed I meant regarding the jealousy issue... I was simply trying to state there was no jealousy involved in my opinion... also, I do agree with you that the photos aren't necessarily needless, but too many at the moment, that's all. Basically, I would like to provide some of those good posts from other forms (thanks btw) to this forum as well, instead of saying "looks good" in 15 of 16 new threads, which are of a detail job recently done by someone... if those detail threads said stuff along the lines of "I used a so&so foam pad to use the polish at 1200 rpm, then used so&so m/f towel to wipe off" etc... then yes, I would find it interesting and might learn a thing or two from someone else's technique... but a huge majority of the posts do not contain such information... As for my skill and methods, I've posted a LONG section on a BMW E36 forum, which I will copy here as well a bit later... for now, all I've got is this video...

I dont understand why this section needs to be one or the other, or split up. Why cant DIY'ers and so called "Pros" post freely, together?. If you would like to put up a car you detailed go ahead and if you want some help on how to detail your car just make a thread, everybody wins here. I know a big part of my learning experience in detailing has come from pros showing off their work. I see the level of professionalism they display and also see what products they used etc. These things are all beneficial to a DIY'er. In my last thread with the M5 I posted the machines, pads, products and speeds used to yield the results I got. Now to novice detailer who was working on a similar car that type of information might be helpful.
I always do a quick search on other detailing forums before I start on a new car, just to see if there are any notes about paint finishes and stuff that I should be aware of before I go out an polish a specific car. For example I saw on another forum a post about a black GT Bentley that had super soft paint and how even washing and drying caused marring. This is a great thing to know if I were to detail a similar Bentley. And thats an example of a pro just posting his work with a few notes about the process that I was able to benefit from. I dont know about you guys but I love seeing other peoples work, I enjoy seeing before and after pictures of finely detailed cars, even those DIY jobs.

Smoke I do agree with you... I myself have looked at a lot of those detail threads to see how the paint reacted, etc. My main issue here is, and this is something that I clearly noticed right off the bad, is that the posts of the DIYers not only drop down the page or to 2nd, 3rd,etc. pages, but those posts are being over looked and a it takes a while for a response to appear... I guess it just becomes a battle of opinions and all I'm saying is that it was more enjoyable for me to come here and help people out than to look at the detail threads... I suggested a separate forum because sites like autopia, meg's, etc. are detailing based forums, with subforums on cars, etc... likewise, I feel this should be a car based forums, with subforums on detailing, etc... even sites like autopia have their own "show off" sections, separate from product discussion/review, etc.

Here is something I will add from my perspective, is everyone tired of the products or the way they are being marketed? if I was a sponsor there would be probably alot more content than Rich has put up to date. If you are introducing a NEW product line would you not want to get as much exposure as possible from as many different sources?.
If Gloss-it products were not up to snuff Rich ran the risk of me putting that out for all to see as well, a big risk because when something is introduced that is the time a reputation is forged or maligned and when something is good or bad that is what the forum is about, for those that can tell the difference to review the best products or label it as snake oil.
I saw from an earlier post that Josh in Texas is trying the line, he may say " it sucks " but I doubt it because from what I can tell he knows his stuff and will add it to his tool chest to help him give his clients the very best, even Todd who got banned helped with his review of Meguiars M-105 I tried it and love it and this is the only Megs product I use!. If anything maybe a " PRODUCT REVIEW " thread might suit the needs of detailing section? I ordered some Autoglym glass polish because Moe said it works great, so this way if it works better than what I am presently using I win.

My perspective is this. I'm lucky enough to work for one of the most respected businesses in the industry. It took us 27 years to get here. Rich himself seems to be well respected as well, and has been doing it a long time also. He's paid his dues, worked with smart people, and spent a LOT of money to formulate what most all agree is a quality product. He 's the lead sponsor of this forumn and PAYS for the right to show his product off - however he wants. Yes, maybe Smoke went a little overboard for a week or so and threw Rich under the bus to some of you guys, unintentional I'm sure, but I don't see why he's getting such a hard time about it. Just maybe, it's because he's giddy of the results he's getting from it? Would pictures of an upside down Cyclo with two dime size drops of his product on the pads make you happy? Because unless many of you guys (especially the old timers with all the knowledge) want to take a class on embedding YouTube videos it isn't gonna happen. Remember, these shots are taken on location at peoples homes. Maybe they don't WANT their cars posted all over the net. It takes time to snap and upload all those pics (Jeez Phil, that Bentley thread is EPIC).
To me the fact that Rich has stayed out of this sand fight shows he's got nothing to hide or defend. Business ethics and integrity still matter. As it's been said before, the good detaliers with good reputations have nothing to defend or worry about - they will always be busy. I happen to love the before and after pics. But I'm really not sure it's fair to ask for more than that. These guys are trying to make a living too at the same time.
With that this thread is closed.
