Need a "decent" OTC engine cleaner quick...

Well like the title says I need a good degreaser/cleaner for doing an engine detail on monday. I don't have time to order P21S TAW or anything so can anyone reccomend something I can pick up locally to use until I order some? Any help would be appreciated.

Wes

Hi Wes. OTC engine degreasers are VERY toxic and way too strong in my opinion. I think it's smart to wait and order P21S TAW.

Are you by chance the same Wes that ordered interior cleaner from me in TX? If so, I finally got my shipment in and I can send the autoglym and the TAW together and have it there by Friday or Saturday at the latest. Let me know.

seafoam

seafoam should do the trick if you didnt grab anything yet....put it up through the vacuum intake and watch your car smoke.

This is a great time to ask this question. I love to use straight Simple Green from a 1 gallon garden pump sprayer. That way I can get it right where I want.

Has anyone found this to be too caustic?

I think the big problem with Simple Green is that it can be damaging to raw aluminum parts. It will stain or discolor them. For this reason, I wouldn't want to use Simple Green.

I think there is an aircraft version of Simple Green that is safe(r) for aluminum. I've seen it at Home Depot.

I'm sticking with the TAW.

There is an aircraft version of simple green and I've heard some clients use it with success.

As you mentioned Rob, I'd stick to TAW as well. There's a reason why these products are made for automotive use. There are lots of products out there that can multi-task, so if you're in a bind, use them safely. But whenever possible, get the correct product intended for your specific application.
