Clear Bra Removal

Anyone have a technique for removing clear bra film with out damaging underlying paint?
The hood on my Porsche looks terrible due to the poor application of clear film. The rest of the car looks really great. Thanks in advance.

I recommend and professional Heat-gun. (Not a hair dryer) What you wanna do is heat the bra corner at a time, lift it up and pull slowly. this process takes forever but be patient, because if you leave glue behind it's very hard to get off. Once you have removed the bra you will most likely have a little bit of glue left. Take some body solvent or glue remover(Not Go-Gone..because it sucks) and rub lightly till its completely gone. Apply hand-polish or wax back on the surface for protection.

I recommend you take it to an installer, and have them remove it. They will also inspect the installation, and look if the installer cut into the paint with a blade. If they cut the paint, it's not safe to remove. I assume you want a new Venture Shield put on, if that's the case just talk to your local installer.

You can either give us a call or post a picture. We can safely remove the film and apply a new venture shield film to the whole hood.

Otherwise, the heat gun, some patience, and more patience is all you'll need to remove the film.

As John mentioned, be very careful when lifting on areas on the paint that may be cut due to improper installation

If this is a 2nd hand car, speak with the previous owner to see if the film was applied to aftermarket paint. If it is aftermarket paint, be very careful because if it was a poir paint work, then likely the paint will come up. This doesn't happen with OEM paint, only some poorly prepped / primed aftermarket paint. Either way, just start from one corner and begin peeling / pulling towards your body.

I've watched an installer remove 3m before. He ripped it off as fast as he could. Looked so painful but I guess it's the best way to do it according to him.

I just took mine off the other day. It had been on the car for about one year. It was half way up the hood and on the front facia. I tried the heat gun and pulling which only made it more difficult because the film started to strech as it got warm. I put the heat gun away and just pulled it off with slow steady pressure. It only took obout 45 minutes. Once it was off I had a little bit of glue residue left which I removed with (3M tar wax and adhesive remover) on a microfibre towel. Taking the glue residue off only took about 20-30 minutes. After that I did a complete detail of the car. I'll post pics of it when I get them downloaded. My car has factory paint. If your car has been painted I'm not sure if I would try it? Hope this helps. It was actually very easy to do.

Cool!! Most of the time it's as easy as you've done it. Patience is key. Great job on doing a proper detail afterwards. Looking forward to seeing how she looks

It just so happens to be a month or so away when Premier will be in So-Cal(orange co) with their new shop. I HIGHLY recommend you have them do the job or the results could be horrific.
