Beat Champion RG5's re-polish?

I have a nice unbent and set of RG5's with the polished and clear coated lip. The lips are not curbed but are scratched on the inner barrels quite badly.

I was thinking of wet sanding the clear off with 1000 followed by a 2000 sand, then some brand of alu polish paste.

Would this give decent results? Would I need to have the lips re clear coated, or would wax do.

Thanks,

Tom

GlisteningTech is infamous around these parts
Seems logical to me that you don't need to go through all that if you are going to have them re-sprayed with the clear anyway. I think that you would only need to get them re-cleared, and that should fill in any of the scratches that were there, and give you a polished look again.

I haven't dealt with a situation like that really, but it seems logical and would entail a lot less work than sanding off all of the clear and polishing them, only to re-clear them again.

Thanks for the reply, but the scratches are thru the clear and into the barrel, so I need to do a bit of sanding on them. Guess I will just have to give it a try!

Thanks, Tom

It will work. I did a minor curb on my RG5s and used 230, 400, 600, 1,000, steel wool, then finished with Mother's Aluminum polish. At first, there was a MINOR color difference where it was polished. This became less noticeable after a week and I can't tell where the repair is now.
