Is this price reasonable?

I want to put an invisible bra on the front of my 997. I went to a dealer recommended body shop for a quote to repaint the front bumper, hood and front fenders. Zero body work required; the car is Basalt Black. Their "cash" price is $3500. I'm in Southern Calif. Is that price in the ballpark? Thanks for your input.

hrm is infamous around these parts
Were you quoted for half or full hood? That price is high.

I just had the full hood, front bumper, and fenders done for $2500. Also, you may want to check their previous work. A few friends of mine went to shops based on price and the quality was sub-par.

I realize the drive is somewhat far (I do the Westlake Village to San Diego drive a few times a month) but I would recommend Modern Image in San Diego. They do great work at a reasonable price.

Are you talking about clear bra pricing or the repaint? If the paint work, you're basically painting half your car...or about 40% of it. That price seems about right if it's a proper specialized shop. The shop I work with charges about $1200 for the bumper.

As for clear film, we commission Premier to do all our work. Before we send the cars to premier, we perform a paint correction to any area that will have clear film on it and all of the work we do is custom installation.

Let me know if you'd like us to take a look at it and get you a quote. The body shop I work with is:

We can coordinate everything for you as well including a rental car.

I know there is really no comparison, but in 2003 I got a full hood, full front bumper, half front fenders, mirrors, and a strip in front of the sunroof done custom (fully wrapped edges, no cutting on car, they were not hacks ) done for $700 cash When my buddy recently priced out getting his M3 done, i couldn't believe the price he was quoted!! Pretty much makes it not worth it at that point.

EDIT!! Whoa, would be nice if I actually read the post. I thought you were talking about installing the clear bra for $3500!!!

So the price is $3500 just for the respray on the front end? Seems a bit high to me, but you never want to skimp on quality when it comes to body work, especially on such a nice car. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Yes, I was asking about the price to paint; sounds like the price I was quoted is not outlandish and I guess I'll have to adjust my thinking. Moe, thanks for the info - I'll be back to you soon.

As Moe accurately stated, repainting a vehicle will definitely cost more if it is from a quality paint shop. The price you were quoted is about right for the areas you are looking at respraying.
