When leather tanners talk about conditioning leather they are referring to re-hydration; not the replenishment or replacement of the fat liquoring oils and waxes. Modern finished leather needs to be kept hydrated with moisture to ensure the leather remains flexible and maintains its soft tactile feel. This is done by regularly wiping the surface with a damp micro fibre cloth and by using aqueous (water- based) leather care products. There is no reason to use oil-based leather care products to condition or feed leather hides

Silicone and oil- based conditioners are all damaging to urethane coated leather, as they attract dust, which along with the friction caused by entering / exiting the vehicle, they also block the movement of moisture back and forth (evaporation and hydration)very necessary to correctly maintain finished leather

LTT solutions does ship to US, not cheap though, but very high quality products. LTT and LM are both great for maintaining leather that is in good condition.

Something worth mentioning, there is a variety of leather used in the automotive industry (http://www.leatherworldtech.com/Leat...ification.aspx). LM and LTT offer products for these different types of leather. Questions have been raised as to whether oil's can penetrate the top coat on protected leather. So heavy oil based conditioners may leave residues on the leather which attract dirt and do more harm then good. Similar to how dirt sticks to silicone based tire dressings. So instead of using "conditioners" containing oils on protected leather, we are seeing a shift to water based cleaners and leather protectants instead.

Hopefully TOGWT can post more information on proper leather identification/ care.
It’s no secret that my leather care product of choice are made by Leather Masters (and yes they are sexy

“Leather Upholstery Type Surface Identification” http://togwt1980.blogspot.com/ TOGWT® Blog

Most (95%) of automobile upholstery is finished leather that has a urethane pigmentation coating to provide an even colour to the hide and to afford surface protection.

Always remember you are dealing with the finished coating on the leather and not with the leather hide itself
