Swirls in Clear Mask?
Swirls in Clear Mask?
So the car came out gorgeous using the BlackFire Swirl Removal Kit, black 911S. The clear mask, think its 3M but not sure, has swirling. Any way to remove or reduce this? I did not hit it with the buffer or any liquids, was afraid to. I did clay it though, so its clean... Any ideas?
Depending on the brand it is possible to polish light to moderate swirling out of ppf. You need to be experienced in polishing and correction before you should try to tackle film. Where r u located?
Perhaps someone is near you that can show you the ropes or recommend a pro to take care of it.
You may have installed the swirls with the clay.

Use diluted isopropyl alcohol mixed with water 50-50. Apply with q tip or clean cotton *****. Wipe off quickly. This clears up the haze, rubber black marks, tar and minor scratches well for me. Try it in a inconspicuous spot first to make sure it doesn't damage the top coat of the clear bra. I used it with good results on venture film and 3m.
If you use a polish, don't rub it in. It will burn the top coat.

Since you stated "Clear Mask" by name I am assuming that is where you got the material. They use uncoated Ventureshield and brand it as Clearmask... so do not use alchohol on it. It will severly damage the film and make it very dull. There isnt too much you can do with that film to get swirl marks out. I have seen people use a VERY fine polish and hand buff it with limited sucess. Other than that there isnt much that works. Uncoated films are not very durable.

I used Clear Mask as a general term, car is used so I have no idea what brand in it. I am considering just getting it replaced.
How do you guys like the 3M product?
The scotch guard held up well. I did get a stain on the lower film from fresh asphalt and have it in the shop now getting replaced as well.
I would recommend the scotch guard. It is durable, Polish-able and looks good. It does have orange peel but so does the paint.
I cannot comment on the Xpel yest becasue I have not lived with it yet.
Good Luck.

Next time use XPEL Ultimate and you will not have to worry about any swirls. Watch video below:
It has a self healing top coat. Its a ver ygood film and much better than 3M or Ventureshield. I used to install Ventureshield until this and Suntek came out. They are head and shoulders better than 3M. Not sure of an installer out where you are though.
There are quite a few competent installers in the greater PHX area. Here is a list of those who carry the XPEL Ultiamte product:

The Ultimate film has elastomeric polymers. In short, the clear coat is constantly moving, and "fills in" the light scratches and swirls.
While the self-healing is a nice feature, the film's best attribute is its resistance to staining, discoloration, and chemicals. You won't have to worry about bug stains, hazing, bird droppings, or any special maintenance that we be required in those situations with many other films.
