Paint chips exposed

Just got the car back from a minor repair to the rear bumper cover. The shop does excellent work and is busy with high end exotics not average collision work.
Before returning the car they detailed it and buffed the paint. I first saw the car last night as it was delivered to my house when i was away on vacation. There are about 40 very visible chips in the paint of the front bonnet. I spoke with he shop and they say that I am seeing the wax in an existing chip and the appearance will fade away after a wash or 2 as the wax releases from the chips. Is this possible??? I waxed this car last winter with Griots wax and buffer and didn't see any chips or visible defects in the paint. Maybe a few chips but not over 40 chips. It looks like i am seeing white color under the black paint.

Any thoughts on this??

Yes...it's probably polish/wax residue left in there. That usually happens with the cheaper waxes.

Most defiantly not wax in the chips. I consulted with a detail shop, examined it more, then used alcohol to clean out the chips and they are still there and as deep as ever.

What happened is the shop where I had the car serviced caused damage. Of course they deny this and gave me the lame excuse about the chips being exposed after waxing. Over 40 chips on the bonnet alone. I know they weren't there before.

I'm exploring my options to have this resolved.

Did you buy used?

If so the seller (dealer or other) most likely had chips from PO filled and blended i.e. Dr. Colorchip method or similar. In my experience, unless rock chips are properly filled, sanded, etc. the repairs can/will pop when compounded/polished w/ a rotary and also even w/ a DA. In fact if you read Dr. Colorchip instructions they advise to machine polish affected area before attempting repair w/ their method. Confidence inspiring in durability, huh?

If you bought new and can prove chips were not there then hold their feet to it.

Good luck

drcolorchip. not perfect but you have to be close to see the chips. I havent had to redo my chips but i will say short of a complete repaint its a decent option. On large chips yes, it is hard to get it to stick.

It could be the shop who repaired it made the damages. If its a polish or wash residue it can be removed using alcohol or just by a clay bar.

Have you tried demanding them for repairs or so?
