What the hell, someone already managed to wreck the R8...

 

The R8 caught fire,not wrecked in an accident!! According to some people, they are telling R8 owners to watch out for overfilling the gas tank I believe, or somehting like that because it spills onto the exhaust and will catch fire!

 

That is the V10 R8 prototype testing at the ring.

While the base R8 has a good old-fashioned German V8, a more powerful version under development features a Lamborghini V10 powerplant. Since Gallardos are generally not noted for engine fires, we don't think prospective R8 V10 owners will have anything to worry about, once engineers work out all the bugs.

If I can identify the track correctly from the pics in the link, it looks like it happened right before the Pflanzgarten I. Nothing special about the load on the car or acceleration right before that section, in eiskurve - at least, not especially hard compared to the rest of the 'Ring - it's all special!

 

i remember i read that cats get into the engines some where......

 

wow a gallardo based R8.... sucks for the current owners, its a good thing to wait on the new cars, being first isnt always the best idea

I have seen a number of 430s that have caught fire. There must be some inherent problem.
