Anyone go from 996/7 GT3 to 430 6speed?

I'm looking into new cars for my dad and he has been a lifelong Porsche guy...had about 30 of them. He is comfortable with them, understand them and races them. I have planted the seed that he should get himself a Ferrari because lifelong car guys should try one at some point in their life! What are we getting ourselves into? 6 speed in mandatory. What is the market for these right now? Thanks, Kent

ditto, had quite a few porsches as well including a 996gt3. i've had 3 430's - started off with an F1 coupe, then 6spd coupe and now an F1 spider. i'm a die hard gated shifter guy myself but the F1 in the 430 is sick. it's the first f1 system that i can truly understand why someone would prefer it over a manual... not saying i'm one of those people... yet

The F430's have come down a lot. Here's one for your dad. It's a 6speed too. I've seen this car in person and it's clean. Asking $180K. I'm a 6spd guy too.

Next spring, the prices will be even lower. The only downside is that the '05 cars will be out of warranty. I purchased my first Ferrari while it was still under warranty, just so if anything catastrophic happened, it would be covered by Ferrari. It is now out of warranty and I have not had a single problem with it. Best of luck to you. Searching is half the fun.

That would be an excellent car. I know the owner and he's meticulous about care and maintenance. His price is a bit lower than other 430's as I'd bet he has a 599 on the way and he wants to move this one. No other reason to suspect anything about the car due his lowered price. It's a beauty.

If that's too steep a price jump, there are a few good 6 speed 360's available which might make a good transition. No, mine is not for sale!

Good to know - I wish I could get him to pounce now! My parents are looking for another house in scottsdale and my mom is slated for a new toy this summer. He was considering another GT3 or GT2 but I am working on him Hopefully next spring is a beautiful Italian!

I was a manual guy to the bone I thought until I drove a Ferrari with the F1. Key word is "Ferrari". They have the F1 tranny down better than any other car I've driven with paddles. There is NO WAY a manual Ferrari will keep up with an F1 no matter who's behind the wheel. It's lightning fast and a much safe feeling with both hands at 10 and 2.
