95 355 coupe worth?
95 355 coupe worth?
Red/tan, manual, 6K miles, 2 owner car, good, but not great shape. A friend of a friend is thinking of selling it, and I might be able to get it cheap. He has several cars, and needs the garage space. For some reason he doesn't like the car. I plan on getting a PPI, but I know it needs a $7K regular service...belts/valves...
Prices look to be all over the place
thanks for your help

yeah, prices are all over the place- 55k-90k depending on source (ebay- dealership etc), mileage, and model. but how cheap is cheap?.. the saying goes there is no such thing as a "cheap" Ferrari... definitely get a PPI as you mentioned and you can even look up his car over at Ferrari355registry.com all you need are the last 6 digits of his VIN. good luck
yeah, prices are all over...I know the guy. Older guy that is not a car nut. He doesn't know anything about Ferrari's. He bought it about 10yrs ago, and just decided he wants to get rid of it. The PPI I guess will determine the actual offer, but I know it is accident free.
Get a PPI done, if it needs a major and a valve guides you may be looking at a $10-13K bill depending on who does the work. The clutch and radiator fans should be good at 6K miles if not ??? and other issues related to early 355(s) are manifolds, O2 sensors, thermocouplers, ecu(s). During a period of 24 months I put approx. $24K (43K miles to 49K miles - 2nd major, valve guides, clutch, misc electronic parts ...) into mine.
But I don't regret it, it still is the best sounding car I've ever owned.
BTW: I know of a recent sale on a <20K mile 99 F355 Spider F1 (Rossa corsa/tan with a recent belt service, clutch, and fresh tires) for low $60K before taxes and fees from an authorized Ferrari dealer consignment. If it were a 6 speed it may have actually gotten a little bit more (the 1st generation F1 scares many potential buyers).
Good Luck!

I can tell you what to look out for but the best bet is to head over to fchat and go to the 348/355 section where all your questions will be addressed. there are several areas of concern when looking at buying a 355 and all have been addressed over on fchat.

even at a "friends" price, 40k-50k is a low price. more power to you if you get it for that. I have only seen one 355 break below 50k and it needs more than 25k (as per the ppi from an owner [high bidder] that backed out of the deal).. full story on forum listed above. buying a car (or anything) from a friend or someone you know is for more valuable than the cash you save buying one off ebay or any other unknown avenue.. ebay deals are low and often have a story.. good luck

Pprices all over the map from $40K to $65K.
However, the 95 is THE year that has to be watched closely for compliance with a variety of campaigns.
The valve guides were the biggest problem as were headers and cats. If they have not been done, you could be looking at at least a $15K bill!
Have it checked.
On the positive side, the 95 has the highest HP rating due to the dual air intakes. 96 on started OBDII and the single air intakes.
Sounds like it could be a nice car but get it checked

Hard to know precisely but if properly done it's worth every bit of what you state and maybe more.
I don't know where you are located as there could be suggestions for someone with whom you should speak in your area.
