Thoughts on 05 430..........

This 05 f430 has 5800 miles. Is that too many miles? Will this car last me 5-6 years? I will only drive it on the weekends.

There are plenty of 20-30yr old ferraris still on the road today. In fact, we see most 308s and 328s in local gatherings. Cars are made to be driven, they are machines, just like every other car, nothing special about the f-cars from reliabilities point of view. Cost of ownership is higher, but when properly maintained, it goes a long long way. Some people have problems because it is not serviced regularly as it sits in the garage. For example, fluids needs to be changed on an annual basis regardless of you drove 5,000 miles or 500 miles that year. Most f cars that have issues are the ones that don't get driven much. 5,800 miles imo is very low, but if properly serviced/maintained, then no issues. Best of luck.

as the previous poster said, it all depends on how you maintain it and take care of it. A car can last for 40-50 years if you take care of it. If you have the funds i say go grab it. its one helluva machine

SOunds like such a silly question. There must be something more specific you want to know?
Sorry but I couldn't help myself.

^ Kind of agree with the above...sounds like the OP needs to do a bit more hw on the car...even if it had 50k well maintained miles, I still wouldn't be worried about the car lasting...resale is a diff. story obviously

In which aspect is the cost of ownership higher for F cars? I thought as long as you change the fluids every year, i should be fine. I was quoted locally 500 buck for fluid changes. Any additional items that needs to be changed/replaced? If so what items are they? Cost to change/repair? thanks

$500 is by the local dealer? The last fluid change I had was about $880, which includes motor oil, break fluid, coolant, gear oil, labor and parts. I know the 355s run about the same, not sure about the 430s but I would guess they are similar since labor is the most expensive component in these services. 430s are good in the sense that you would not need belt service, but in general when any Ferrari goes wrong (i.e. F1 transmission), the repairs would not be inexpensive. They start from a few grand and go up to wherever it needs to be. Here is a link that can be of reference. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/sho...rvice+schedule. Not sure how accurate or complete this is, but is a benchmark to start with. I believe for example the oil change mentioned here only includes the motor oil, and not the other fluids.

Ferrari's are beautiful vehicles, and a blast to drive. Once you have one, it is difficult to live without one. Life is too short not to have a F car.

I would agree with the above post. I have a 360 that has been bullet proof. but just getting the damn car hooked up to the ferrari SD2 computer seems to run 4 figures at a dealer.

the thing to look for on 05 430s is the headers. They are known to crack. The replacements are redesigned, but aren't a recall item. They need to be fixed under warranty or out of pocket. If they haven't been replaced, I have heard quotes from $5k to $12k to change them.

Even Kia's last longer than 5-6 years. I think an F430 will hold up just fine.

Don't worry about keeping it for 6 years. Ferrari ownership is an addiction. You'll want to upgrade in 2-3 years.

A complete annual service on a F430 for 500.00 is truly a bargin. Typical rates from authorized dealers are as high as 1400. If your seriously interested in Ferrari ownership and maintenance costs I suggest you stop by your local Ferrari dealers service dept or a professional Ferrari independant to discuss. Obviously scheduled maintenance costs will be predicated on the model, MY and mileage at time of service. You may also want to post or search your inquiry on ferrarichat.com

the 430s went to chain driven so the services are less than a 360 and even less than a 355 (the 5K 10K services can run 8G because it is a engine out service the 360 is about a 3K job) the 430s are around 1500. If you maintain it properly and prepare yourself for the sed services and nothing catastrophic happens you should be fine. Its all in prep. If you jump into a car not knowing the long term costs (example a CCB F430 will cost more when u need to replace rotors and pads) or a F1 could be more costly to fix (the servo motor for a F1 is close to 3K) all of this factor in. Its more expensive than a honda of course but like any high performance precision machine care needs to be taken into the service of the car. As PCH said best bet is to stop by or call your local Ferrari dealer and tell them your contemplating a F430 and ask how much COO (cost of ownership) is. They should be straight forward. then from there you can make a decision if the F430 is the right car for you. Its an amazing car and a great drive. If you can afford it i say grab it. 808-377-4495 that is the local Ferrari Service center to Hawaii JN Exotics (I have no affiliation just helping here)

Here on big island, there isn't an authorized ferrari dealership. Is it absolutely necessary that I take my F to authorized dealership for annual maintainance? thanks
