I think if I get an 05 Gallardo, I would still be lusting for a Ferrari.

From what I can remember, '04/05 6spd Gallardos were about $80-90 and '05 6spd F430s were about $135+

The Spyder can tackle 25-mph switchbacks at double that speed. The grippy seats hold you in place and the body shows no signs of pitching or rolling, yet the ride is never harsh. Traction into and out of the turns is hardly lost, with the standard mechanically locking differential enabling high exit speeds. And in a straight line Porsche is claiming a 0-to-60-mph time of 4.6 seconds on PDK-equipped cars with launch control, which seems a bit conservative considering we managed 4.3 in a less-powerful Boxster S weighing 3220 pounds with the PDK. Figure 4.1 or quicker to 60 and about 12.7 seconds in the quarter-mile once we strap test gear to a Boxster Spyder.
Might need to learn how to drive your 360. The F1 is not meant to be a drag car off the line, so you would need to do a midrange drag test, but Motor Trend got 4.1 to 60 and 12.2 at 115 for the F1 in 2001. Add an exhaust, sport cats, and BMC filters and it would be worse for the Boxter. Also the Boxter is 400 lbs. lighter. With the right exhaust, sport cats, and light weight battery, the difference would be 300 lbs.
I don't know one person that would ever take a Boxter Spyder over a 360 Spider.
I just drove my 525hp 996tt for the first time in a week after getting my 360. The improvement in torque and power was appreciated, the slight turbo lag of all turbos and the now slower (relatively speaking) revving engine was not appreciated. It's amazing how "normal" of a car the 360 has made my Porsche feel now, and again, I truely think 400hp in a RWD Ferrari is plenty. I sure as hell am not WOT in the 360 around any high speed banks/turns for fear of the back end breaking loose and causing a wreck. The Porsche's AWD is much more predictable and controllable in that regard. The Porsche's suspension also felt much more sturdy and bricklike than the Ferrari which seems to have a little softer suspension, but the Ferrari's ride quality and bump absorbtion is also much better than the Porsches. The seating position in the Ferrari is also MUCH better for me being 6'6'' tall. I love both cars, but they are very different.
Interesting. ..
I always consider all my options.
I am going to completely trash my idea of considering a Gallardo.
1. Ferrari F430
2. 997.2 Porsche GT3 (Possibly a 997.2 GT3 RS). As much as I'd love the new Turbo that is essentially 500hp/500tq, it seems too tame for my liking.
I'm going to eventually test drive a GT3 and would definitely modify EVOMSit tuning, Sharkwerks Track Exhaust, and it'd be perfect. It still wouldn't be as cool as owning a Ferrari, but the GT3 is more of a special supercar as opposed to the F430. I'm not sure how I can explain it.
I'd also like to see how the 991 GT3 will turn out.

Really!, MATTYRAE. I hope you own both of these cars, as I do, so you can make back to back comparisons. You apparently don't like my subjective analysis, so here is what Road & Track has to say on this subject. 0 to 60 P 4.4 sec. F 4.5 sec. 0 to 100 P 10.4 sec. F 10.7 sec. Quarter Mile P 12.8 sec. F 12.9 sec. Top Speed P 166 mph. F 180 mph. Braking 60-0 P 111 ft. F 125 ft. 80-0 P 196 ft. F 221 ft. Skidpad P 1.01 Gs. F 0.93 Gs. Slalom P 74.2 mph. F 66.6 mph. I think it's pretty clear which is the better performer. I love my 360! I hope to never sell it. By the way, I did trade my 355 F1 Spider for an Audi RS4.

I will give you the slalom, but I have a hard time believing the Boxster Spider will do over 1g on the skidpad. Must have been one grippy surface.
My buddy at EVO magazine shares my opinions:

BTW in addition to my 2002 Esprit V8, I own a 360 Spider and a 996 GT2.

I'd love to have an F430 and a Boxster Spyder, but I would really like to eventually own a 911.
Again, I'm going to have to really be wise with my expenses. My last modifications for my Boxster S will be an exhaust and summer/track tires. After that, everything will go towards an F430.
I hope it's not going to be too difficult finding a 6-speed Rosso Corsa Red F430 for a reasonable price when the time comes.
I'm extremely excited to test drive an F430 this summer! I know that little taste is going to convince me to own one. Plus it's complement my F1 Scuderia Ferrari Warm up Team Jacket .
Perfect! I didn't know you had a tune for the F430!
EVOMSit, Hyperflow cats, and Capristo Exhaust is going to be perfect for me.
This video is what really convinced me on the ownership of an F430. Sound is very important in my book. I've heard the F430 in person and it's great, but from videos I wasn't completely happy with how it sounds stock. I preferred the 360 Modena, until I came across Capristo. IF ANYONE can suggest a car that would excite me as much as this in the same price range, be my guest...

The Gallardo would be comfortable, looks beautiful (especially with an LP560 front), sounds amazing, nice amount of tq, good interior, and is exotic.
But I never really loved the Gallardo. I always remembered the feeling I "sadness" I felt when Lamborghini released the Gallardo which destroyed the 360 in performance. I also remembered the excitement I felt when Ferrari released the F430 in response to the Gallardo
I love the bloodlines of the Ferrari. I don't like Fernando Alonso or Massa, but at least they've been in F1.
I just never felt an attachment towards the Gallardo as I do with Ferrari's and 911s.
The only somewhat affordable Lamborghini that I'm lusting for is the Lamborghini Diablo...
Call me crazy, but as beautiful, well rounded, and perfect as the 458 Italia is, I wouldn't want one. I don't like how smooth and "boring" the side of the car is- no air intakes/vents.
I completely despise the fact that they ditched the manual transmission!
This pushed me away from Ferrari's. I gained more respect for Porsche's, especially how it's rumored that the 991 GT3 won't even have PDK as an option
The GT3 is basically the Scuderia for Ferrari. It's not just a supercar that anyone can like. You really have to love how hardcore the car is. Besides the premium on the F430, that is the only downfall I find with an F430. It's not as special as the Scuderia, 360 CS, GT3/GT3RS, Superleggera is.

Why the change of heart on the Gallardo? I plan on adding an exotic to my stable and am between your same 3 cars. But for me, the 997 is mostly out of the running as it is not exotic enough. I already have a high horsepower car with tons or torque that looks good and provides a visceral driving experience. For my second car, I want a more exotic car that is fun to even drive slow. Because of the price premiums the F430's carry, I am leaning more toward a Gallardo.
