458 VS Aventador what to buy????
What manner of sorcery allows one poster to specifically pick the absolute fastest times recorded for a 458 Italia, and compare them to the MP4's slowest time? What manner of magazine racer can easily disregard actual real world results in favor of magazine tests which Ferrari is already known to cheat at?

Sideways,
It sounds like you are tunnel vision focused solely what car is faster on an abandoned air strip. Who buys a $300K+ car based on a split second differential ? An Aventador is clearly faster than the 458 in a straight line (with equal drivers). That being said, so what ! Nobody buys these cars for a split second differential in a quarter mile time. Do you just drive in a straight line ? I think not. When I drive with "the guys" on the backroads of the north shore of Long Island (mostly twisty 2 lane roads) the fastest drivers aren't the guys with the fastest cars, but the guys whom are the best drivers (at least in our group). I have been to a track or two and seen an instructor in a Boxster S *** kick wannabe racers in TT's and GT3's. There is alot more to performance of these cars than just a drag strip. The fact is that the 458 is much easier to driver fast than the Aventador. I can confidently state that in the twisties the 458 has been able to hang with anything from a ZR1, GTR, Enzo, 430 scud, Carrera GT, Z06's with the Z07 track pack, etc. If anything I think the Z06 and ZR1 have had the best drivers although hamstrung with a manual tranny. Can't imagine what a competent driver would do to me in a ZR1 or Z06 with a DCT tranny. Anyway my point is that in the real world we drive in, the 458 makes an average driver like me look and feel like I'm Michael Schumacher and after all, isn't that what this is all about ? You can keep your Mac and Aventador. I wish you nothing but a big smile and happy times in whatever you drive.

I completely agree with everything you say! A car is not all about straightline speed. Ita about how it interacts with the driver and how fun it is to drive. Thats why i drive gt3s and gt2
i beleive a 458 is an awesome car and i would easily take it over a mp4, no doubt! The reason behind all this jabbering is because you said a 458 and mp4 is equal when it comes to performance. On a track and in a straightline with equal drivers, the mp4 is always faster. But the 458 is more involving, more beautiful and sounds alot better! I think we can leave it there
cheers

I'm not familiar with Sport Auto here in the States, but at least you provided an objective basis for your statement. I won't apologize for my obvious skepticism and disdain for your videos, but I will apologize for denigrating your position that there are no objective tests reflecting the Mac being faster. Can you post the Sport Auto test for us to see ? I assume you have a Mac or you wouldn't be defending it so vociferously. The poster probably should have included the Mac as a 3rd choice with the Aventador and the 458. In the States there is a group of folks (me included) that never considered the Mac as a viable option. My last 2 DD's were P cars - an 03 996TT X50 6 speed and then an 07 997TT tip. After spending the better part of the last decade driving a turbo I just wanted a normally aspirated engine and the 458 was the obvious choice. When I ordered my car at the end of 2011 the 458 reigned at or near the top of the DD food chain. Anyway, if you review the road tests available here in the States, all performance testing shows that these 2 cars have relatively similar performance envelopes. Maybe its just me, but I have never been spanked by any car except for a highly modded ZR1 and a highly modded GTR (I'm talking aggressively pulling away deep into the triple digits). No stock Mac, Aventador, GTR or whatever is spanking me and my 458. Keeping up with yes, but certainly no spanking me. Too bad we don't have a real racetrack in the Long Island, NY area to properly test ALL of our banshees.
We used to. Bridgehampton was a great track. I think it is a golf course or condos now.

I would love to see the old Calverton site developed into a road course/test track. Beats going up to MMC.
Will you be at the Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock up in Glen Cove on September 8th?
Lacrosse,
I never had a chance to track a car at Bridgehampton (it must have closed 20 years ago). Also Monticello is approx. 2 1/2 hours away from where I live in LI. Considering there are an incredible amount of motorheads and $$$ in the Long Island/NYC area (close to 3M population in Nassau/Suffolk alone not to mention the boros of NYC) it is simply pitiful that there is not one single true racetrack (even a modest one) in NYC, Nassau or Suffolk. Between the environmentalists and the developers it is just impossible to ever build our Long Island version of Circuit of America. I was hoping that Reckson would have developed the Calverton land, but nothing ever materialized. We need an approx. 500 acre parcel of industrial land to build an approx. 3 mile F1 circuit (could also double as a NASCAR track). Could probably get 300 investors/gearheads to put up $1M each and finance another $700M or so. Still you could never EVER get the "locals" to bless such a venture. Guess that an F1 car screaming at 20K+ RPM and going 200mph would be a bit intrusive to the surrounding area. Sorry for going off topic/digressing. Anyway I have no plans to attend the Glen Cove event.

Sorry you won't be in GC. Cheers!
Hi guy´s
First let me say thanks to a very good forum spent many many hours looking on different things on this site
I am looking to buy a new car and had decided to get a 2013 458 everything was done just to transfer the money and then drive away as a happy puppy. But when I was at the dealer they rolled in a red Aventador brand new also 2013 and that created a problem for me
Both of the cars is fantastic but I have to get one or the other.
What do you think??? I hope you can help me decide
I don´t care so much about if the 458 is 1 sec faster round a track or if the aventador is fast 0-200 the car will not be used as a race car.
Think more autobahn and Monaco then Nürburgring I still have my old 997 GT3 RS for that
And also I am a car user meaning that it will be used and for long trips from time to time.
I am a bit stressed that the Lambo will be hard to live with everyday in city traffic and such but maybe I am wrong.

, if I had to buy one; I would have got the Ferrari 458 Italia its a beast and an irresistible machine to own
.
The Mac is a great car (with the HP boost even better) but it is NOT "a lot faster then the 458". No OEM car in the World save extremely limited production crazy expensive cars like a Veyron, Konnigs or Pagani H or faster than any 458. Yes an Aventador may hit 60 in 2.6 vs. 3 for a 458 and the 1/4 in 10.6 vs. 10.9 but these #'s are truly meaningless dribble when you are in the street. What matters is how the 458 makes you feel each and every day. If you want a high end mass produced DD that will be the fastest opt for a 991TTS, best bang for the buck DD get a GTR (while fugly there ain't no denying its ridiculously fast and an extraordinary performer). With all due respect the people that buy these cars aren't really looking for THE fastest car, but a car that makes them FEEL like they are Michael Schumacher each and every time they start up their baby. If you don't feel that way about the 458 then don't get it. Its like a wife (been married for 25 years). If when you look at your wife you want to kiss her then you you have chosen wisely. If not, well maybe its time to look at a different manufacturer or model.
that is nuts, i had no idea that the Mac spanks the 458 that hard in a straight line. To have a 500 +hp car and get walked on like that is a testament to how brutal the Mac is in comparison to the 458.
IMO, it would seem that the 458 would be better compared to the likes of Porsche 911 turbo S pdk (my fav), gallardos, R8 V10 and maybe the upcoming baby Maclaren.
IMO, The F12Berlinetta (whatever its called) would probably be the F car that is better suited to be compared to The aventador and Maclarens.

Read deeper and you'll find the 458 has spanked the McClaren 12C in every area BUT a drag race.
I agree. The 458 is a little more practical for DD.
The off chance that a Mac will encounter me at a stoplight and beat me In a race wouldn't prevent me from getting the 458. Such a beautiful machine and that Interior is beautiful.
The sport car pro's continue to slam the Aventador in every mag test across the globe and the 458 continues to receive highest praise.
As highly critical Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear put it after driving the 458: The finest sports car of the past five years. Utterly mind-blowing. You should want one, everyone should want one.
