good post!

The 599 needs more time to grow on me... but I just think the 550/575 is one of the most beautiful cars ever.

Worst color on the 550 and the best color on the 599. The 550 still looks BETTER. Definately vintage in comparison, but way more elegant, traditional, and classic-- the way Ferrari V12's should be. Leave the screaming exotica to the mid-engined V8's.

550 is also much smaller than the 599. Although one can't dispute the performance of the 599, it's not one of those cars that make me awe-struck when I see them. I've seem about 10 in real life too, still hasn't changed my view.

It's funny you say that because in 2002 when we ordered the 599, the owner of the dealer said he had talked to a VP from Ferrari and they had made a big deal out of making the new v12 way more aggressive because people were always buying 360s. The 599 is a reaction to the lack of v12 demand experienced by the 550. With that being said the 550 is probably more timeless.
