gt3rs vs 997 TT
gt3rs vs 997 TT
I love my 997 TT but considering trading for GT3RS. I have never driven a gt3 or a gt3rs , can somebody tell me what the major difference I will feel between the two cars.
keep the tt if you are a street driver, get the rs if you want to do trackdays
if you live where you get seasons, 4wdr is a huge plus and PASM might save you if you do something silly, TC on the GT3/rs will not save you
for 98% of drivers, the tt is the far better car, for the other 2%, the gt3/rs is the far better car
Well, I had a 996TT and now have a 997 GT3, but I'll give you my opinion.
- The unassisted clutch is harder to push, but is more satisfying in use.
- The engine/exhaust sound is much more special. It sounds like a highly tuned motor.
- The shifter is short and requires some effort, but it matches well with the clutch weight/feel.
- The ride is firmer, but tolerable.
- The torque difference is noticable, but above 5K the GT3 has impressive performance.. it really feels like it lights up with speed. The way this motor gains rpm is very satisfying, even during part throttle acceleration. Of course, you can't expect to it to rocket forward from 3K rpm like a Turbo will.
- The GT3's steering is as good as a power rack gets. It doesn't offer the purity/feedback of non power steering, but it's a good compromise.
I like the change. The GT3 is the more special car. The 997 Turbo's stability control, ground clearance and ride make it the better daily driver, but the GT3 is able.

i came out of a 95 ferrari with manual steering to get my 3. at the time i didnt think anything could be better. was i wrong. the 3 is more accurate, delicate, communicative, etc AND is an easy dream at low speeds.
ive never driven an elise but i cant imagine anything with better steering than 997 gt3 manual or power

When it comes to transmitting road texture, and offering a pure, mechanical feel, non assisted steering is superior to power assist, IMHO. The GT3's steering is indeed accurate, communicative when pushed, and easier at low speeds, but it's a bit numb to road texture and often provides a fly-by-wire feel.. i.e. it's almost too smooth.
Power assist is a gem during long stints behind the wheel, but unassisted steering is a near direct connection between your hands and the tire.. no middle man. e.g. - the road goes from smooth to rough.. a non assisted rack sends little vibes through the steering wheel. Some may not care for that, but some do. Turn the wheel and you can almost feel the rack and pinion working. I also prefer it's self centering to the power rack's.
As I said, the GT3's steering is probably the best power rack out there, and the best compromise, but it doesn't do it all. I guess nothing really can.
My $.02

The 997TT is a great daily driver and so are MB and BMW, ect.,ect...
But the car that's truly special and give you the biggest grin everytime is the 997 GT3/RS. It is what a 911 is all about.

I agree...it's a shame to let the RS sit for too long.
If you track cars a lot then the GT3 is probably a better fit for you, but the TT is no slouch at the track either, but it is a better DD for sure. But adding an exhaust does wonders for the sound of the TT and a chip is plain sick! The best of both worlds would be the GT2 if you can get one.
