Gt3 & Rs Front Screens

I'd be interested in hearing more opinions on these screens. The motorsports version are manufactured out of very thin aluminum, as such, they do NOT stand up under everyday usage. Teams must replace them on regular basis. Seems brands are aluminum...We do NOT use that material in that type of environment. I am now convinced that I must fabricate Screens from Stainless with a template...time consuming, yet inevitable. As we have too many clients who want (NEED) this protection. Very tricky to look right.

I am not sure I understood what exactly you were trying to say.
The screens are not strong enough? I had front screens from Porsche Motorsport put in my GT3 and are the best I've seen.
Are you making your own screens?

Many of the teams claim that the screens get so beat up that they replace them on a regular basis. Granted, some GT3 owners will not see this type of service. Because they are aluminum, they are difficult to repair once damaged. Believe me, I don't want to fabricate them for my "street" or DE clients because of the time in construction for them to be visually pleasing, however, I have yet to see any made of stainless screening which is what we use in racing on a regular basis. I am doing a few sets now out of frustration, knowing that they require a fair amount of labor time. I've created templates and will install them on two RS's and two GT3's. One RS is a European delivery that went to ring and spa without them; you can see the issue right away.

I ordered Cargraphic screens and sent them back. They do not fit as well as them screens from Porsche Motorsport. Their shape and contour are superior. Its a hassle to take the bumper off but they look much more finished.

The other screens being discussed here I would be interested obtain more info on them and pics as how they look and contour to the bumper.

Thank you,
GT3Ranger

A few pics of the bumper and screens. The side air duct screens do not project well and they are thr best looking ones.

I agree. They have saved my radiators several times already. Easy enough to bend back into shape after they have deflected a rock or other debris.

We are doing two RS's currently, as in today....will have to remove front cover and investigate possible attachement arrangement, PITA...WHY would a production car NOT have this simple protection OEM?

The Carnwall screens look really nice. Saw them at Lime Rock on a GT3, but I think they are Aluminum too (and pricy with the weak dollar). Good luck on your quest.

I used porsche motorsport this season and although they took a beating, they held up. Apparently they are soft enough to deform with heavy hits and then you bend them back. I would have thought they would have been a thicker gauge to begin with but so far no complaints

aracerx,

Where do you obtain your screen material?

I have an older 911 and been searching for some to cover a front oil cooler opening. What I've found is either too restrictive or like you said, too thin. I checked with a few suppliers, but they sell in bulk and want minimum order of a few $$$.

Thanks.

Tinker
