Thinking of selling my 997 GT3

Hey guys, I’m thinking about selling my 997 GT3. I have owned and loved a 993 and a 1972-bodied 911 PCA GT3S-class race car, but I am not really enjoying the GT3. I have had it on the track once, and while extremely fast, it really wasn’t nearly as much fun (for me and this is strictly IMHO, of course) as my old race car. And as a daily driver my old F355 was much more enjoyable….so I think it’s time to sell.

The one track day left me with some chipped paint on the front bumper and hood, and I also have some minor road rash on one wheel and just above the chin spoiler (I have a brand new spoiler that I have not yet installed that will go with the car). The question is, should I get the minor stuff fixed prior to trying to sell it, or just knock $1000 off the purchase price?

Car is otherwise in perfect condition. Only “upgrade” is Cargraphics screens in the front bumper.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Kevin

i would fix the stuff... psychologically, people want to buy used 7-GT3s in like-new condition... even though the stuff you list is minor and repairable, i think that the ROI on you spending the money is higher than $1k in perception to the new buyer.... just IMHO of course

I don't know man, I would not give up so easily on the car. This to me is so awesome in all respects, as a DD and for track lapping days. The dings are inevitable on the track or the street. My GT3 has 3800 miles and I'm on my 3rd front spoiler and had the front bumper aiready painted once to keep it nice.
I know these dings get to me but can change it if you intend to drive that bad boy.
IMHO give it a little thought before parting w/ it, unless reasons are financial issues. In which case that's your personal concern.
Good luck, it's a great car, you know that!

Hi Juan,

3800 miles and you've repainted the front bumper multiple times? Why not clear bra the thing?

Thusfar I've (as have others here) done the front spoiler, front quarters, full hood, mirrors and door edges. I have to say that I'm happy to have had the foresight to do the full hood at this point for this car, unlike my M6 on which I only did half of the hood (then again, that's not my track car). Since the majority of my use will be at the track, I'll be bra-ing the rockers (I know that they're likely to get chewed up) and likely all or at least the front portion of the roof as well. Also, what about X-Pel (or equivalent) for the headlights? Thoughts?

Hey Wayward, you're right on the clear bra. Now is the right time to do it after the nose just got redone. I also had the cup car front air duct screens put in. Unbelieveable but the day I took the GT3 out from the shop on the way home a large piece of debris smashed into the right screen and caved it in but the radiator was saved.
Now it's another long wait to get a set of these screens.

Anyway I will look into the clear bra.

Juan

Juan, yes to everytihing. I'm planning on the Porsche Motorsport screens as well. This board has been so informative. Take care.

So Kevin, I must ask, what's going to replace this fine piece of machinery? I take it you're going to go back a few decades?

Where are you guys finding the Porsche Motorsport bumper screens, anyway? I've seen the Cargraphic, and it's, obviously, slightly different than the Porsche Motorsport pieces.

Kevin,

I may have a client interested in your GT3. Can you email me some more pics and the description/history on the car?

Thanks,

these cars are seldom set up properly from the factory...and alignment is critical...did you get a corner balance and alignment before you took it to the track? If not, that may be why you didn't enjoy it so much...hate to see you give up on such a fine car...

Chuck is absolutely correct!
We realign just about every GT3/RS that comes through our shop before the client takes it to the track. Despite being specialty cars from Porsche, GT3's are still set up for the street with street alignment specs geared towards understeer. That is why we sell the suspension upgrades that we do along with a competition alignment.........makes all the difference in the world when taking the car to the track.

I think I understand your POV. The GT3 is so poised that you never really get the thrill you got from the older air cooled cars that were at handful at much lower speeds. It is the downside of cars getting better. You need to carry much more speed to achive that same at the limit feel.

Good luck with your decision. The GT3 is a spectacular car but not what everybody wants.
