Question GT3 in winter

Any GT3 owners in the North who used their cars during the winter.

Did you use snow tires with the existing rims?

Can you use the Turbo look solid spokes they recommend for the TT in winter (I recall it is easier to get snow tires for these wheels).

TIA

Drive your GT3 in winter??? Are you out of your mind? That's as bad as the guy on this list (who shall remain nameless) who mentioned that he had diffculty taking his GT3 through the car wash! I suggest that you delete your post immediately.

About to pull the trigger on one, but will need to drive it most of the year, certainly winter, but maybe snow days it can take a break.....

The wheel / fender clearance and the low front lip make it impossible in snow in my opinion.

larry baby dont be a profiler!!! after all you have the Journoman Roundel -- porsche made these to be driven. when i lived in CT, i drove my 930 10 months w/o snows.

saw mill,
you want a narrower rim with dedicated snows [tyre rack can recommend] and 911's are great then in the snow... go for it [remember you have no extra corrosion proofing, so the salt MUST be rinsed off at least weekly]

Sorry Watt, it's just my Denali affliction kicking in...12" of ground clearance, full-time AWD, 275/70 Michelin M/S tires with cleats big enough for homeless people to live in, and mashed into the earth with 6000 lbs of road-hugging weight. IT LIVES FOR SNOW!

Thanks Watt,

And just to clarify, I don't anticipate using it in snow, the Audi quattro can deal with that, but I do want to use it in the CT winter when it is merely cold and gritty, and I assume the standard tires are far from optimal for this. I will also be committing sacrilege by taking it to the local (brushless) car wash. No more garage cars, I had a TT for 2 years I hardly used, any future Porsches got to be driven.

I would contact the Porsche driving experiance people.

They should know what tyres are used on the artic driving experiance, cars had no trouble at all coping with snow and ice.

Don't forget that a 911 won the Monte Carlo rally in the late 60's!

Watt, double check on the corrosion things. In the Uk we have a full 10 year corrosion warranty, speaking to the dealer he advised me that the GT3 has the same level of corrosion protection as other 911's.

Best to double check though.

P.

Unlike other Porsche's there is no undercoating on a GT3, it will not last.

The GT3 has never seen rain so far. The reason for that is I live in So Cal =)
