HELP: GT3 Suspention question
Now there's a comment you don't see everyday. I wish I had your problem right now......have a great '08 TK.
I had Robert at Redline Motorsports in Phoenix do his version of the "Track" setup in our owners manual and corner balance my car. He said "you will not believe the change" and I can't!!! I have to relearn our local tracks. Understeer....GONE. Turnin.....all you have to do is think turn. "Darty" under hard braking......GONE. This on a car a dealer had aligned twice. Now I understand why even people from Calif. bring cars to him. The car is still great on freeways and around town.

Always interested in what others are trying
Paul
In one of my research visits to race teams, a crew chief told me when I asked him if
motons were needed for the GT3, that the 997 GT3 suspension does not need replacement, unless you are Micheal Schumacher or going wheel to wheel. It just has to be aligned properly. He looked at me paused and said "Porsche really got it right with this one." Take thats for what its worth. One mans opinion.

Good Answer......One thing I learn in my race carrier : YOUR SET UP CAN ALWAYS BE BETTER AND THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEBODY BETTER THEN YOU........
.With that let's look for a better set up fpr a GT3...
Understear like crazy..and it's not stable enough .....does not turn at all...

1. I rotated the front struts and dialed the suspension down to Kusmaul specs - BIG DIFFERENCE!
2. I learned how to drive the 911 the correct way ( http://www.zh.com/images/vettranio.pdf )
I don't think #2 pertains to you but I know I couldn't get the car to turn either. That was before I was thought how to rotate the heavy *** with brakes and gas. The car just won't turn without doing this...
Hahah! I just realized I'm telling Tony Kanaan how to drive a car... What's next? I'm going to teach Bill Gates how to make a little extra dough....

I assume tire pressure and alignment is correct because even from factory some cars came with off alignments. Quite surprised to hear that it's not stable enough because 7GT3s are suppose to feel a lot more stable and planted than 6GT3. For me, when my car wasn't turning in right (and understeers too), I soften up the front sways and asked the mechanic to toe-out a bit on the fronts. Also, as much negative camber as stock can take without rotating the struts like in Kusmaul setting, which is very aggresive. There are still minor understeer but it is much improved and street driving is also retained. Suspension kits like Ohlins, Motons and JRZ are pretty good and can turn the car's feel night and day as far as I've read in books/reviews. Search on Rennlist for a lot more info. There are a lot more people over there who push their cars.

alignment
great thread guys
i have been having understeer issues on the 7GT3
so far i have tried 3 tires.
Toyo R888
Nitto NT01
Michelin PSC OEM N spec
the toyos have been the fastest although he Nitto's "look" the most aggressive and feel the softest.
Both faster than the michelin.
In terms of alignment, the best so far has been -3.25 degrees on the front and 2mm total toe out and -2.25 degrees on the rear with 2mm total toe in.
i have tried as much as 4mm toe out in the front - no good
i have tried as much as -3.75 degrees neg camber in the front but it was not materially different than -3.25; in fact my fastest laps have been with the negative 3.25 degree front setup.
about to put on a set of hoosiers to see the difference and lower he car 15mm allround maintaining pitch.
i have adjusted sway bars a few times and the softer setting seems to work better in the front. going hard in the front has resulted in lifting the front wheel mid corner occasionally. the rear doesnt seem to make a huge difference given so much grip.
one thing i did notice is Incredible high speed stability when i put the front toe out to 4mm (2mm each side).
keep the feedback coming
yss
