Another (Evo magazine) GT3 vs GT-R video
I don't care if the GT-R is faster than the GT3. I would take the GT3 anyday over it. Even over a 997TT. There is a feeling I get when I drive the GT3 that is hard to describe and I don't think the GT-R will be the same. My favorite car out of the many I've owned has to be my 996 GT3. If I could have found a 997 GT3 at MSRP I would have got it instead of ordering the GT-R.
GT3 vs. GT-R
The GT-R is faster, no doubt but it's doesn't demand alot out of you to master it. To me, that's the fun part of owning a GT3, it makes you work to extract the best out of it. There's always something faster around the corner so buy what makes you happy and to me, nothing brings a smile to my face than driving the RS, on and off the track.
The GT-R is a great car. It is fast as hell, in a straight line and on the track. Is it better than a GT3? In my opinion, NO. I want a NA engine, high revving, light weight, rear wheel drive sports car not a 4,000 pound, twin turbo, all wheel drive car. The cars are in totally different classes. If you want to go fast with driver's aids, the GT-R is probably the car for you. If YOU want to DRIVE fast, you'd probably prefer the GT3. Both are great, chose the one you like better. I know I did.
Brilliant!!!

I realize we have the option for a GT2, but the Nissan has really made a point about the 997TT and it's abilities on the track... a facelift is in order!
If you can drive you'll never have to worry about losing to a GT-R.
At least a stock one. The GT3 has never been very mod friendly so cars that are pass it up quickly.
The GT3 has always had a propensity for seperating the boys from the men when it comes to drivers. If you cant rev match and carry good speed through a turn, you will bog it down and lose lots of time. I've seen guys who actually race being 7 seconds slower per lap than a good driver in the GT3.
The GT3 will reward you by beating most anything short of cup cars and highly modified cars if you can shift quickly and possess some skill. If you dont, well watch the EVO magazine video as to what happens with bad driving in a GT3.
The funny part is that people can take much lesser cars, but much greater skill and hand beatdowns to the so called track stars. The track is a great nuetralizer of who "should" be faster, and who actually goes faster.

+1 agree with your post. But where are we, as Porsche car aficionados, to look if we want a Turbo 4WD car that can be used everyday for all conditions, but yields faster track times than a GT3?

I wouldn't mind a facelift. As long as it was faster, lighter, better handling, and more FUN!!
Seriously, if you want something all wheel drive, turbo, and faster than a
GT3 on the track I would try a modded 997 turbo. ECU flash, headers, exhaust, race gas, air box, Bilstein PSS10 might give you what you want. It would probably be faster but not as fun or driver oriented.
HeavyChevy, The man (driver) is always more important that his tools (car).
Cheers
well this is the funny thing. the GT-R limits are harder to reach.
so a GT-R will give more thrill than a 911 turbo or GT3 in the aspect that you will have to push the car alot harder to get to the cars limits.
that means bringing out the thrill factor. so therefore you will able to go alot faster in the GT-R than the GT3 or 911 turbo.
so you get two different type of rushes. You get a rush from the 911 turbo and GT3 by going slower and reaching the cars limits.
and you will get a rush from the GT-R b.c you will able to go alot faster trying to find its limits.
Ill take being able go faster b/c its harder to reach the cars limits. GT-R for me

after having driven the RT12 and GT3 back to back numerous times, i've come to the following conclusion:
you want to cover ground really fast and blow by virtually everything you're likely to find on the road with you at the same time, the 650+HP Ruf is the one to take.
you want a real THRILL where you need 100% concentration and you're all flushed and your heart racing when you get out of the car, the GT3 wins every single time-- even if you're noticeably slower than in the Ruf.
the GT-R is a monumental achievement for Nissan. personally, i believe that 95%+ of drivers would be faster around a track in that car than in the 997TT, 95%+ percent of the time. in Clarkson's favorite words, that is simply "epic"
But the more "exciting" or "rewarding" or "satisfying" car is NOT always the same as the "faster" car (in terms of laptimes or acceleration).

haha heavy you are too much. you must be the god of driving. or think you are
ha i didnt know the stig even spoke especially as much as heavy. im pretty sure the stig wouldnt be full of lame excuses even when he doesnt speak
We'll see who makes the excuses we we meet at the track and you try and beat me with your speed limited GT-R.
Oh I forgot, YOU'RE NOT GETTING A GT-R!!!!!!!! All mouth, no track.
Leave the driving to us. HAHAHAHAHAHA
But not to worry, I will have some video of me lapping GT-R's soon enough.

this is too much fun.I have to agree - I'd go with GT3 every time, IF I could get one, and, I IF wanted to drop $110++.
I think it's great that we have the GT-R but feel it's aimed at the rice and Z06 market. Horses for courses.
The GT-R would be fun to try tho....
i have to agree wholehearedly with heavy and ill...they took the 997TT and GT3 in the most unfavorable conditions and in all cases the GTR could barely eak them out. that shows just how much better the Porsches are.
the GT3 was on cup tires in 35 degree weather...they werent heated up and obviously werent getting any grip-regular summer tires arent supposed to be used in anything under 40 degrees, of course a stickier tire that needs to be heated isnt going ot grip. obviously the GTR is gonna grip having awd and no cup tires. they also drove the P cars terribly, drifting and spinning tires losing tons of time.
put someone serious in the Pcar (walter rohl) and it will obliterate the gtr! the gtr ran a 7:50 from the sportauto test, nowhere close to a 997TT or GT3.
wait until a real test comes out where one car doesnt have an advantage over the other and the driving is top notch. the gtr isnt as fast in a straight as a 997TT, doesnt handle better than a GT3 or turn better lap times.
dont worry, the gtr fanboys will be brought back to earth soon enough.

if that is you arguement. you are saying 911 turbo and GT3 arentnot being all around performers and they need perfect conditions. of course the GT3 wouldnt do as well in less than favorable conditions being thtat its a RWD. but I hope thats not what you are saying. b/c you are only saying the 911 turbo and GT3 has even more limiitations
its sonding like another excuse
