Gt3 Engine Failure
Gt3 Engine Failure
My baby has engine failure! There was a slight noise (sounded like a rubbing or clicking) coming from the rear of my 2007 GT3. It drove a few hundred yards, then the engine just killed. The starter clicks, but nothing.
Woodhouse Porsche service said they tried to turn the engine by hand, and it is "locked up." They said it's not the pulley that was recently installed with the RS flywheel.
They are now waiting for Porsche's regional rep to tell them how to approach it. Any insight/suggestions would be appreciated..
Two questions...
1) how many miles on the motor
2) was there a set of misfire codes before it died? have you pulled the codes?

Thanks for responding!
I've had the car exactly one year, and have racked up 10,000 miles on it. Probably one of the higher milage 997 GT3's out there..
I'm not sure about the misfire codes. Where/how are they displayed? I believe the dealer has pulled them. They said Porsche would want to see the codes, but didn't say if they revealed anything about the source of the problem. I'll ask tomorrow.

That has got to be nerve racking as i am sure a GT3 engine will easily cost over $20k+.
Please keep us posted. If I were you I would have probably towed it to a shop and had them put it back to stock before it is towed to the dealer so that they have no way to finger point.
Best of luck to you.

Why does it seem as though this is becoming a common thing. Late model P cars with completely shot motors with little to no miles. Can someone give a logical and reasonable answer!!!!
Sorry to hear about your woes and good luck to you!
Please do keep us posted. There are a lot of out there w/ LTW flywheels, including me. My car just turned 10k and no problems so far. The only way to ensure you don't run into warrantee issues is to not mess w/ the motor but they'll be hard pressed to link engine failure back to the LTW flywheel since it's standard on the RS (assuming you're running OEM parts) and the motors are otherwise identical.
