Talking Another Dream Shattered....

Evening All,

Bored with BB so I thought I would tell you about my day out.

One of my customers requested that instead of the usual JP day, was there anything else they could do that was a step on from the amusement park rides.

After a bit of searching (OK, 1 phone call) I decided that a day out with the AutoClassica Trackshare guys was the order of the day. Well, that and the fact that I know the guys that run it quite well and I could cut a deal....

The two main reasons for choosing this event were:

1. I get to drive a Porsche Cup Car with someone else paying the bill

2. The instructors compete in the Carrerra Cup so should know what they are doing.

Snetterton was the venue of choice, my sacrifice to the rain Gods paid off this time as the day was blistering, just the weather to be driving a car with no opening windows, air con working vents etc.

First session was an evaluation of your skills with minimal intervention from the instructor, once the areas of weakness had been identified these were worked upon until another was highlighted and so on.

Not having driven a 911 on slicks before I was amazed at the level of grip, but the difference between my car and the cup car was even more amazing.

The speed that can be carried through the corners was mind numbing. I thought I was going quite quickly before Richard Westbrook (?) took me around just before lunch. F**K!!!

In the morning session I was lapping in around 1.29 (Stop laughing Steve) but after lunch I decided to stop being a girl, leave Miss Daisy at the OAP home and pull on my brave pants,

Having listened to what I was told I got my lap time down to 1.18 in the next session, thought I was definitely the great undiscovered talent of out time and had to find a larger helmet to fit my enormous cranium.

Then Richard told me he was lapping in 1.09...

Now equipped with a much smaller helmet (matron) I learnt from my previous mistakes through Russell and was rewarded with a 1.15. Ah Ha!! thought I, once more assuming the John Wayne swagger down the pit lane. Richard then took me out again to show me some areas that I could pick up time on and produced a 1.05....

Now equipped with my Danny Larrow mince, went out again and decided that it was time to unleash the applicator!!! After a tricky few minutes getting it rigged correctly, and keeping the hoards of Pit Tarts away from the stead, once again went out to defend my honour....

... and did a 1.20.

So gentlemen my dream of being the great white hope have been dashed before they even got started, another dream shattered, nay, torn from my grasp leaving me a shell of my former self...

So, if you have a few good clients that you can expense a day out on, or just want to have your dreams of driving superstardem torn to shred, I have to say that the Trackshare guys provide the best day out of its kind.

They are also going to do a couple of days in Spain, track, cars hotel, flights etc which could be worth considering. Girls go and sun themselves by the pool all day whilst we go and drive someone else's car like we stole it. Sounds perfect!!

If there is enough interest I will enquire for some more details and see if there is a deal to be done. Let me know.

Off to lick my wounded pride....

P.

Pictures to follow.

I am so sorry to hear of the failure of the left foor applicator. I was envious of the success that you have gained by using this unfair advantage. I presume that said applicator will be thrown in the nearest garbage bin. In that case, I hearby state that I desire to be the next owner and, with it, shall try my best to coax some magic back into my ever declining driving talent or lack thereof.

Best regards.
K.

Got a Maserati with F1, close enough? Surely it's no three legged donkey, but it basically made from the same ingredients. If not the Mk2 applicator then the Mk1 will make some diffrence.

More Cup Car Pics

And another.

This is the car with the 04 kit on it. Much faster and more forgiving on the Curbs due to the more adjustable suspension and extra 30HP.

Paul, is he subtley requesting 2 of your new applicators?

I tried one of the un-patented right-foot applicators that was secretly developed here in the States. Worked great at Watkins Glen this past weekend. I could forward you the design if you keep it under wraps.

Also I received your roundels and will apply them to the car post-haste.

I have decided that my next most important MOD is ME.

I really need to learn how to drive properly to take advantage of this car. Do I need to travel to England or Spain to drive a GT3 on a track?

Are there any schools in the US that use Porsches? I know the Porsche Driving Experience uses 911's but they look like stock C2's.

I am seriously considering the 3 day Bondurant school but I still would prefer a GT3. That Trackshare program looks like a blast.

Great write up!
