996 GT3 to 997 GT3RS Conversion
Sorry, didn't mean to rain on the parade, not my intention at all. I think this car is seriously one of the most beautiful P-cars I've EVER seen and it really is a great way to showcase the work that your shop can and does perform. Congrats!!! BTW, how about a CF Batwing, you know the surround that goes around the radio etc. Maybe you already got one, I didn't see it in the pix though.
Joe, first let me preface what I'm about to say with telling you that what you've done to this car is AMAZING!!! Super great looking car and the craftsmenship is bar none top notch. I know you're planning on keeping this car forever...but if and when you do sell it, to not have a salvage title would be untruthful and deceitful. If it were only the conversion parts that you dealt with then I'd totally agree, but we're talking about things that were structurally damaged and replaced. That to me (and the law I believe) constitutes the requirement of a salvage title regardless of where it happened. If you didn't disclose this information at the time of sale and it turned out something went very wrong such as a break in the structure that was replaced and causes an accident, I would imagine you could be held liable. Now in no way am I saying that you would ever sell the vehicle without disclosing this as you have been WIDE open about it. I'm just saying that maybe you disclose everything and have the documentation and build here, but the next owner may not be as genuine and just sell it as a "converted" vehicle. The Salvage title not only protects you the seller, but also the buyers down the road who may purchase from less than honest sellers.

Your car will still have a clean titled car even if it has been an accident. The title of the car is not affected whether it's a $600 bumper repair or a $6000 frame job. If the car was not worth fixing for the insurance company then they would total it and only if the customer wanted to go forward with fixing the car would it be considered a salvage.
I hope this clarifies things a bit for everyone. The history of a vehicle really comes down to the honesty and full disclosure of the seller (or a Carfax report of course)

I'm sure if Joe were to ever sell this car the buyer would know its history. You cannot just say a car has a "salvage" title, that is for the insurance company to decide. For example, if I get an older E46 3-series in my shop and the damage to the car is $7000. That car is only worth about $10,000 but the insurance company is going to fix the car rather than deem it a total. After I fix the car it is not considered a "salvage" and technically has a "clean" title as Joe was talking about in regards to his Porsche.

Joe bought the car as a project for his shop and and staff to learn as well as show the quality of work that they can do. This car was not insured at the time of the accident, and there was no claims made, and obviously Joe was able to repair the car, therefore no salvage title.
I also doubt that Carfax will have every accident, they get there info from shops and agencies that share the info with them.
I'm not saying it is a big deal, I'm just another body shop owner trying to offer to some clarity for members like ScottKelly911 in terms of the circumstances of the insurance companies, repairs, etc.
I was just saying this is a non topic which has taken over a great thread over a hypothetical situation. In other words, what he does when he sells it shouldn't have come up in the first place because the car is not for sale.
Oh I wasn't referring to your post, I'm actually glad you clarified the situation. Thanks for your input.

I agree, Wyatt got confused because there was another thread, in the NW section, where I had listed another 911 for sale; a 2002 911. No mistakes about it, this car is not for sale and shouldn't be at any point in the future. But should I ever have to sell the car, ScottKelly, don't worry I won't be selling it as a clean carfax, clean title, no paint work vehicle. LOL. I think my posting every detail I could in this thread would probably indicate I am not that kind of person. For instance if I would have wanted to, I sure could have fixed this car with some used parts and made a decent amount of money on it, being clean carfax, clean title. No big deal, but I agree lets not ruin this thread with hypotheticals that will not ever happen, me lying to a future Porsche owner.
I haven't signed up yet, but I definately will be checking my calander and looking into it. It would be great to meet, I could use all the help I can get on track info.
Green Turbo, Your car looks pretty awesome also! Do you have a thread or pix of your build up?
