Porsche Auction pricing
Folks-
It always amazes me the difference between the MSRP and what the auction price is after 2-3K miles. I know that you take the greatest hit on depreciation when you roll off the lot.
An example:
MSRP
997 Turbo, PCCB, full carbon, everything - $148,500 - Auction $95K at 1500 miles.

I haven't seen them that low lately. It has been around $105-110.
It sold for 95K? Must have been a bad color combo. As I have said it before you don't get get much back in personal options.

auctions prices are always "cheap" compared to retail...but you are also taking risk when you buy at auction, etc. Prices will drop further as econ slows. I think you'll also see GT2's, etc. at MSRP.
I have never heard of that big of a difference, and most in our market are being bought for $115k to $120k with 2k miles. If you buy often from a dealer, you might sell it back to them for $5k less than you paid max. Since that one was so cheap, you could afford to change the car color. How do you know it wasn't a salvage title, or all the other problems associated with auction cars? My experience with those cars is they are being sold there for a reason. A good turbo doesn't need to visit the auction. Even is Porsche is bailing out, a dealer will take it from them in a descent market.

the PCCB brakes detract from the auction price because of the horrendous cost for pads and discs.
On 996s PCCBs had a bad rep, but with Generation IIs and the fact that a very small percentage of TTs see the track (the ONLY reason not to get PCCBS is a heavily tracked vehicle) its a great option for resale.
Many of the semi-exotic cars sold at Manheim are perfectly fine vehicles with no paint work, excess wear, or unusual colors. You do have to be careful, however. But the same goes for buying from an individual or a dealership.
I sell many cars at auction that are pristine. I do so for the ease, security, and rapidity of the sale. I know I could get more retailing these cars, but selling via the auction does have some advantages.
