Needless to say that, you need a full roll cage with side crossbars if you replace the OEM doors with one of these. Otherwise, you have no side impact protection.

Not good or safe enough. Nowhere near. Look at the roll cage (not bar) in the Cup Cars etc.. or the car you opened the doors on Safety first and running doors like that on the street is a big no no....

Cargraphic TUV approved Carbon Kevlar Doors 996/997

I agree, cup car doors are basically for aerodynamics and are serve no crash protection function, thats what the cage if for.

However there is an alternative, Cargraphic offers a TUV crash approved Carbon Kevlar door for both the 996 and 997 with integrated crash beam. We installed these at our shop and were floored with the excellent fitment and quality!

True the security comments.
Cargraphic is a good option.
What is the cost?
Weight reduction?

It may be possible to add custom side bars to those. I don't think they'll be FIA approved but some protection nevertheless.

luiscarlos, hey brother those CF doors are not sufficiently safe.
You say you have a Porsche rollbar system. That is not sufficiently appropriate.
You want to believe in the SP Stuttgart performance door bars. That is total bull$h!t.
Do what you want and go track the car. Have someone "T-BONE" you and get killed!!!! Go believe the crap this company wants to sell you.

I do not give a $h!t. You want to believe their crap go ahead.
I'm done and never talking to you again. Go and get killed.

GT3RANGER dude I am not going to buy the doors after the security concern witch I believe to be honest I will only buy OEM Cup doors but again the security issue is more than enough to don't do it.

I have OEM roll bar and OEM rollcage and even with this roll cage I know it will not work because it has no X session in the door.

I apreciate your concern but take it easy jijiji

What about all those motorcycle riders? They don't have very good side impact protection for both the street or track. I guess all motorcycle owners are idiots who want to get killed!

I have a CF roof that I will be installing in my GT3, and I am seriousl considering the doors.

Once that is completed, then I will have shaved about 500 lbs from my GT3!

You could leave the doors and shave the entire roof completely off and I'm about 99.3 % that you still would'nt save 500 lbs. How did you come up with that figure?

I have reduced the weight of my GT3 from 3180 to as low as 3820 without the passenger seat, so that is 360 lbs. I have it all written down (a very long list whichI need to share sometime soon) because I not only weigh what I take off, but I also weigh the original and replacment parts for a net savings. On top of that, I have weighed my GT3 at the same scales about 5 or 6 times during my 1 year of ownership to help verify the weight reduction.

My next mod is the completion of the removal of the stock roof and sunroof, which will get me another 35 to 40 lbs (the replacment panel is CF and weighs only 6.7 lbs). So that puts me at 400 lbs.

However!!!! I had heard from one source that our doors are very heavy, and that going with the CF ones will save around 50 lbs per door (how I came up with 500 lbs). I just learned that is not true because our aluminum doors are only about 10 lbs heavier than the CF version, so the net savings is only 20 lbs, not 100 lbs! Ooooops!

But, I could technically save the 20 lbs for the door skins, and I believe another 20 lbs for the door panels (replace with the simple ones from Cargraphic). That is 40 lbs and brings me to 440.

So I have 60 lbs to go.

I could do the rear glass with Lexan, but that is only 8 lbs maybe. Doing the front fenders in CF along with the hood may provide another 15 or 20, but I am not sure about that.

So you are right, the 500 is about 35 or 45 lbs too much. Also, I will not do the doors since the weight savings is not enoughto justify the cost. I also will not do the fenders or the hood.

So I will stick with my 400 lbs and call it good. Maybe I will do the door panels and hit 420, but that is the most I can come up with for now (I'm sure there are some more trim items and maybe the dash can be attacked also).

Keep in mind that my weight reductions were done on a GT3 without PCCB's. I converted to PCCB's, which was 44 lbs of my 400 alone. I also did the LWFW and in the process of deleting the sunroof.

An RS with PCCB's can only lose about 320 lbs to achieve the same weight I did; so that may be part of why the 500 seems so outrageous.

Oh, I just remembered; doing an AC delete on my car along with the doors, hood, fenders might just get it to 500, but it would be tight.

So I think it is doable, but I don't want to go quite that far.

Stephen
