996 GT3 or GT2?

I will be upgrading soon to a new track toy, & would like to get some help from you guys @ 6spd! What are your thoughts of the Gt3 vs. Gt2(996's)?

unless you are a very experienced driver you will probably be faster and safer in a GT3...both cars require a skilled driver near the limits but the GT2 will get away from you a lot easier and the outcome will probably not be pleasant..

actually, I find the gt3 more of a dangerous machine...higher corner entry speed and less torque to solve problems...that said, there are certain aspects that make the gt2 a bit more of a handful (like power application), but I found it easier to drive than the gt3...

The 996 gt3 right now is a very good bargain. I haven't checked prices recently, but it is nearly a $30k difference from the gt3 up to the gt2 at around $100k.

That would make up my mind alone, but I have always thought of the gt3 as being more of a track toy than the gt2. I think I would prefer NA engine, and not have to worry about a complicated engine, with intercoolers and heatsoak.

Plus, that difference in price can pay for some very good training, upgraded pads/replacement parts, tires and plenty of maintenance to have a reliable car at the track. Of course one you get a little better, you still have plenty of money left suspension upgrades and stickier tires. If it will also be a street car, and you want some serious speed, then I would look into the GT2, but for track, I'm all about the GT3

The GT3 is far more fun on the street.

I have been driving in mainly DE's for about 10yrs, & started w/ a 951S thats been pretty reliable & fast with a couple of mods. A couple yrs back I purchased a 993 track car which I absolutely loved except for the lack in power. I went back to my 951S, a few buddies of mine have 996 C2's, 996 Gt3's & cup cars, so now its my turn!!! I really want a Gt3, but was kicking around the idea of a Gt2 w/ a friend of mine. I know there is a learning curve w/ any new car, but right now the Gt2 is just a thought.

Thats interesting that you say that, did you find the learning curve steeper in the Gt2 than the Gt3?

I hear the ride is stiff & not much fun to drive around except for track work.

With both cars set up and alignment are key. Being able to control (or prevent rather) changes in toe in both cars and camber in the GT2 are a must. Once the car is properly dialed in, with a good understanding of the dynamics of these cars and track work (ie: things like, vision, smoothness, don't lift, trail brake into tight stuff, etc) neither is very difficult to drive "reasonably" fast. The only thing with the GT2 is the power band. You've just got to be much more conscious of where you are in it, and anticipate a rush of hp more than in the GT3. Although I think with tuning and with different turbos for sure, you can definitely make the power band just as linear as the GT3.

The ride is extremely stiff, but fun to drive around on the street is subjective to the driver. I personally love being able to feel everything and DD mine quite often.
