GT3 or TURBO

I apologize as I assume that this has been discussed before...although,
I am wondering the opinions on the speculation of the new turbo for 2010 vs. the 2010 GT3. I know they are completely different animals, but this car would be a second car, so I am wondering which one to get in 2009-2010. I have been wanting the turbo for 2 years now, but my dealer offerred me a GT3 allocation (with mounts and front lift), so does anyone have major seat time in both cars and can you provide me some guidance along with some speculation. I will be joy riding on weekends...early mornings and so on...up the coast,,,also some track days. Work will limit me on that...but definitely as many track days as I can get to.
Thanks in advance.

Got a feeling the answer will depend on how many track days you're doing and for how long and whether you'll be driving in the rain or on uneven roads a lot etc.

I owned a 997tt and sold it because I felt it was a bit soft and a little, well...boring. Very fast car though. No offense to any tt owners.

I just ordered a 997.2 gt3.

For me the GT3 is a better choice. The Turbo is a bit heavy and softly sprung but pulls hard due to the torque. I also like the N/A power delivery and the sound of the GT3. Both are great cars and I could be happy with either one. The GT3 is ready to go stock but the Turbo needs a few mods to keep me happy.

Done deal for me. The car is gonna be my primary DD, 997.2 turbo it is.

Consider the amount of attention porsche paid to nissan GT-R, I am sure the 997.2 turbo will be made to handel as well!

Having converted my turbo into a semi decent track car I can share my experiences.

You will need to spend $6K+ on suspension bits plus labor to get the car to the GT3 level in the turns. You'll need coilovers, sways & drop links, toe links, and control arms or camber plates (but be careful you dont pull the drive shaft out of the front diff if you go with too much camber).

After that you will have a car thats as a solid as the GT3 in the turns, albeit a bit heavier, but you'll also have more torque, more power, and AWD that can let you get on the gas sooner.

As long as you dont mind doing the suspension mods the turbo is a fine choice. Plus you can drive it year round and through the snow in the winter.

Turbo vs. GT3

I have driven almost every street turbo made. They are all impressive, but all you want to do is mash the gas, and then you run out of road.

The GT3 is the closest experience to the air cooled 2.7 RS, albeit a whole lot faster and the air conditioning works. Each drive is a special event that doesn't end with the eye popping acceleration. It's really a treat to flick your way through turns. It's a thoroughbred that you must respect.

My GT3 is a second car. I have not tracked it, but every drive is a memorable experience, and you don't see one on every corner.

It is special.

Get both. Just sold my M3 & considering a 997 GT3 as my DD.
