For track, I'd say best to focus on handling mods. For example, my RS has been modded just a hair more than the angry pumpkin in terms of suspension and it makes a huge difference on the track. At the last DE I went to I had a stock RS and GT3 following me (both better drivers... at least in the RS) and trying to keep up, but simply couldn't maintain the same speeds through the corners. And I could get on the gas sooner. The guy in the RS was a former pro-driver and he spun trying to keep up. And trust me, I am not claiming to be a great driver. It was the amazing handling and balance of my car vs. stock. If you want a drag racer, stick with your turbo, as you can get over 2x the power to the wheels as a GT3. I also suspect Ranger's yellow GT3 was about the same in terms of power as the pumpkin, but I guess the pumpkin has the advantage for faster shifts and higher final drive ratio. And the pumpkin is probably as fast as a turbo to 100mph, but after that the turbo will most likely pull. I suspect the rawness of the pumpkin vs. turbo makes it feel faster as well. Regardless, the pumpkin is totally badass and really showcases Mike and his team's work.

for robertp: remember, your 996 turbo was born with 415 hp, same as the gt3rs. but the gt3rs is quite a few pounds lighter (600lbs maybe with the approx 200lb diet rss put it on) and more instantly available engine response. for me, my 997 turbo was born with 480hp but with the gt3 being 600lbs lighter, and the work done by rss/mike/bryan i would not want to put up my pink slip.

The 2005 Turbo S is 455HP stock and my cab is a 3800lb car but who cares about that. I am not talking about tracking i am simply talking about a stright line run from 10MPH to 130MPH. I did not say I would bet my pink, just may have to sell if a GT3 can pull away. I doubt it will happening. Like I said before, I can arainge a friendly meet and video tape the run this Saturday monring at 5:00am in OC.

i notice that your avatar is a gt3rsr, not a turbo. but with the angry pumpkin coming in at about 2800lbs vs your cab at 3800lbs you might want to do some math with the lbs/hp and conclude that 6.23 lbs/hp on the gt3rs is going to be alot quicker that your 8.36 lbs/hp. since the anry pumpkin is not my car i can't set up the "test", however, my 2010 gt3 is off-loading in san diego today. with a few mods planned by rss/mike and with porsche's own numbers showing the new gt3 speeds, with its 0-124mph at 12.3 (quicker that a 997 turbo, 996 turbo, and same as the 996 gt2) you may want to mount you cam to the front of your car to have any view of mine during "testing".
lol

I look forward to you bringing the 2010 GT3 to Orange County to test you theory. Let's do a before and after comparo (before mods and after).
My car has a few mods too. They consist of a flash, exhaust, clutch and LWFW.

Here is a video of my car and a 2009 997 Turbo with GIAC, Pleum, FabSpped Exhaust, Light Weight Rims and tires and PSS9's. He holds the PCA OCR track record at El Toro and Willow Springs.

I was in the shop last week. The car has to be seen to truly appreciate. The attention to detail RSS put into this car goes far beyond bolt on mods. It is truly one of a kind.

Why not just bring your 997 Turbo to our next run this Saturday?

unfortunately, i am using this sat to put the mufflers back on, the stock air box etc. in preparation for sale. mama just can't bring herself to let us keep both the 997 turbo and the 2010 gt3 in this economic environment.
my best time in the 1/8th mile is 7.5 sec @ 95 mph. (irwindale raceway). have you ever tried that? it can be fun to blow off the muscle cars etc with my little 6 banger (220 cubic inches).

Yo 10GT3, be careful with the wgt/hp thing. You will be surprised how that doesn't necessarily translate into which cars faster on the street. M5's for example, based on their power/wgt, should be slower than our cars, but that's just not the case. GT3's are designed for the track. Nice linear power band to help control balance of the car out of turns, light to improve braking and overall mechanical grip. And not too much power, so the car is more controlled out of the turns. On the street, there are many cars faster in a straight line. But in the right hands, GT3's can own those same cars on a road course.
