Gt3 rs mkii

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the next generation GT3 RS, but I'm unsure about a few things.
So, I've got a few questions.

My dealer says Porsche will produce 250 of these cars worldwide. Does that sound right?

Do you think this car will get the "instant classic" status?

How close to the Euro spec will the US spec be in terms of options? (cage, seats, etc.)

I'm also wondering about the "Front Axle Lift System". How do you GT3 MKII guys like it? Any downsides in handling when having the system?

My dealer got me at the top of their allocation list, but I'm trying to find as much info as possible before committing. Please share any info you might have that can help me reach my decision.

I know this is like the classic newbie post. I've been a hardcore BMW guy for years, but have always been drawn to Porsche cars, so please go easy with the newbie bashing.

Thanks......

Don't think you will get newbie bashing here, a very helpful and open-minded group compared to most online forums.

Congrats on getting an allocation!

Word is less than 300 of the RS to be made, I have heard various numbers 256, 280 etc.

Front end lift adds a bit of sprung weight, low in car, so doubtful if that it is even noticeable.

The RS will be a lot sharper handling, much more road noise, and have a wider, more linear powerband compared to just about any BMW you might have experienced. Much more visceral driving experience I would say is a good way to describe.

I had a Dinan chipped 335i coupe before my C4S and it is an apples and oranges comparison. The 335i was a mighty fine GT car with amazing midrange thanks to the twin turbos, but the C4S is light years more rewarding to drive. The RS will be that much more sharp and raw.

If you are a real driving enthusiast and plan to exercise it on the track you should be very happy.

On the other hand if you are a bubblewrapnjerker (buy to flip or stuff it away as a garage queen) please let someone else buy the RS who will actually put some miles on the poor car.

Best of luck!

do i hear Kid Cudi in the background ?

I only tracked the GT3 @ Le mans and the feeling is different..it comes faster out of the corners and the line is different since it's more powerfull and more precise..(my 02 cents opinion) might go tracking the car at the Nordschleife sunday if the weather is fine and if i dont go rafting instead lol

.
Dealer is wrong about the Production Number.
250 or so for this production round for the US market
Could increase if production continues on as a MY11.
Total prod run for the last round was approx 460

No clubsport option for US (Roll Bar, Lightweight bucket seats, plastic rear window).

No one can comment on the "Front Axle Lift System" yet as no cars have been delivered yet. Sept production cars onward.
The system is light enough and low enough, you'll never know it is there.

==> no, no car is instant classic. it's just a marketing term.

How close to the Euro spec will the US spec be in terms of options? (cage, seats, etc.)
==> no cage and no fixed back seat, though the GT2 bucket is available. but all the euro spec stuff can be had after you buy the car. just more money ugh.

==> i dont get why ppl are so worried about the little front lip. i replace my every other month. there are other thing you will damage if you really drive the car. so dont worry too much about the front lip.

My dealer got me at the top of their allocation list,
==> that's great news. go for it.

I've been a hardcore BMW guy for years,
==> LOL, i have had all the bmw worth owning except tii and z8, but as porsche says "THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE".

Instant classic, I doubt it. There were only about 70+/- 2008 RS's built; dealers are currently quoting under $100,000 for trade in value, alot different then the $50,000 to $100,000 over MSRP for some of the first released cars. The economy is not helping but don't buy the car if you think it will be a great investment. Having said that the RS is a great looking fun car. Good luck with your decision.

regarding the front axle lift, i have had my 10 gt3 since 7/29 and 2000 miles and lowered 10mm. have not scraped anything yet that made any noticable marks. i have driven lowered porsches since 1972 and the extra $3500 is not worth it to me. i have speed bumps in my neighborhood, at all local shopping centers etc, again no problems.

as good as my gt3.2 is, the rs should be phenomenal!! good luck.

Thanks for all your responses.
I'm still a little confused as to the amount of these cars being produced and how many will come to the US.

The numbers probably do not matter much. When you buy anything new, especially these days, you have to assume there will be significant depreciation. That is the price you pay for owning the latest.
