C2S / C4S inventory (2009) OR GT3 ?
CROSS POST FROM 997 FORUM: i'm listing my 997 for sale and starting my search for a replacement. i had always planned to get the PDK, so now's the time. i can be patient if my car sells in a reasonable time. the car is perfect, and i am cautiously optimistic i can get near full retail for it's age and mileage. my proximity to canada helps in that regard too. anyway
TO THE POINT: searching around, it seems like there are a lot more C4S cars available than the 2wd variety. i can certainly rationalize using it in the mountains skiing, and in the next 9 months of rain in Seattle, but my preference is for a C2S. I'm getting the PDK as it was always my intention of ending up with that. I will be tracking the car.
Question1: thoughts from the board on C2S v C4S - factoring in the the potential for a better deal on the C4S?
there will never be a better time to buy a new porsche on the planet, and if i don't move my 2007 C2S tip now, it'll be that much worse in a year or two.
an outlier alternative is to get a 2008 GT3 but i really prefer to be able to take my kids to school and use my pcar as a daily driver. i have an old E55 warhorse that could suit that but....well, you know the drill here. i'd rather be in the porsche. my commute is 20 mins in stop & go traffic at 14 mph. not exactly porsche roads, but especially not suited for a GT3. of course, they way home after late days in the office seems to find a few longer trips where i can get the adrenaline going.
Question2: talk me in or out of a GT3. i drove the 2010 and it's like sex, for sure. but the deals on the 08's are tremendous. the $50k i save can get me a truck, trailer and tires
thanks in advance,
brendo

Any GT3 is a great car. I couldn't pull the trigger on a 2010 because of the deals on a 997.1 GT3s. With the ability to get an inspection with a DME scan, there is not much risk to buy and find a clean car. I'm thrilled with my "used" 08.
I think my newbie status made the 997.1 a great choice, I'm sure a seasoned Porsche owner, is more comfortable stepping up and buying the latest and greatest Porsche has to offer. I don't see how anyone could be disappointed (nor have I read on this forum) or he/she regretted selling the 997.1 GT3 for the .2.

4S is more popular due to wider rear end. however, it's too heavy for track (plus 4wd is too easy). 2S is better for track vs. 4S. However, GT3 will smoke a 2S on the track, as 2S is not designed with tracking in mind (vs. GT3). I would get a mk1 GT3 over the mk2, at current prices (with money saved can get all suspension mods (i.e. motons, etc) with $$ in the bank and will be way better than a stock mk2). GT3 does not come with rear cage in US, so kiddies can ride along. Outside of the harder-to-push clutch, it's very easy to drive everyday. Way more fun vs. 2S, even sitting still. Living in SoCal, 2S' and 4S' are a dime a dozen and driven by total lame-***** (not counting the guys on 6spd).... think newport corporate types. you score more points for driving a GT3, as it's a purists car and real p-car fanatics appreciate that. GT3 has a soul while the 2S has had it's soul refined out of it. very numb vs. GT3. however, you don't get PDK in the GT3.. and to me, that's a good thing. best of luck with the decision, as depending on your situation, it could be a tough call.

the only appeal of a C2S to me is the rear seat for kids, and relatively more comfortable suspension for daily use.
my kids have outgrown the rear seats, new GT3 are now more user friendly for daily use with more tolerable suspension, front lift function, and interior comfort identical to any C2S.
so GT3 would be the next logical upgrade for me.
