Smile SharkWerks 2010 997GT3 On Ze Dyno

Hey fellas, we're still working on the video for this but a while back we spent some time with Todd@EVOMS tuning our 2010 997GT3 and in the meantime here's a few shots

On the way to the dyno... we brought Kermit along for some "extra-curricular activities":

Strapped on and ready to go:

Running along..

Checking some scores...

With interest...

We made around 60+ pulls throughout the day with various configurations, and Todd made adjustments to the EVOMSit software throughout the day. We also used this time to dyno our upcoming SharkWerks 997 GT3 Track Exhaust system.

Here are the results. The top line is what the car put down with the Track exhaust and the EVOMSit software. The bottom line is the baseline.

We were most interested in the delta, or difference after the fine tuning and exhaust swap, to see what changes were made to the car's power curve as Todd continued to tinker with the ECU.

Here's another graph, showing the result with software alone as well (in middle position):

The tuning involves a more aggressive fuel map, timing advance optimization for specific grades of fuel, and a more responsive accelerator pedal.

A summary:
With software only, the 2010 GT3 went from 392 RWHP to 404 RWHP at the peak. The car gained about this much horsepower for most of its RPM range.
The car gained over 10 ft-lb of torque at its peak around 6600 RPM and more torque throughout the RPM range.

With the exhaust and software, the gains were higher, bringing it up to 414 RWHP at the peak (22 RWHP net gain), more torque at the peak, and a large gain in torque between 3700 and 5400 RPMs.

There is more about the EVOMSit software tuning process here, and a video coming soon.

Before leaving the track (Sears Point) had to get some good gas to go

Looking forward to your debut of your track exhaust for the 997.2 GT3. What is your time frame for the roll out?

OK, 60+ dyno pull is A-LOT and I am sure you guys got it right. 20+ hp gain with track exhaust and software is not bad. what kind of gain are you seeing with the same set up plus software on 997 GT3/RS? I am sure the track exhaust pop the fuse in the decibel meter

Your track exhaust tips reminded me of the one on RSR. How much weight does it save again compare with OEM?

OK Alex, I gotta get a pair of shorts like yours ... they are hot! lol

Hi Troy... a few weeks yet. Doing more testing. Just trying to quiet it down some for the street:P

Thanks Mike! We actually did already do testing on the MK1 and in terms of software plus our bypass this is what we get:
http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=157

There's no loss in tq down low like with a track set up. We did get a bit more up top with a track exhaust.... However it's really just too loud for the street

PS Those are my "pirate pants" as James calls them!

I agree, the more real the posted gains are the less likely you are to disappoint people when they get the product.

lol on the pirate pants

Thanks for the info on your software. can you relaize the 20 hp power gain with OEM air filter or do we need to get higher flow air filter with it?

LOL that's me right there! I wish...

We actually still use the stock airbox even with our 3.9L build:P So you're good!

Sound good Alex. That bring me to the 3.8L RS engine. It has larger engine air scoop with two opening on the air box compare with one opening on our RS ... Is this really necessary since your 3.9L can breath well enough to add an additional 70 hp from stock.

2010 RS airbox

compare with the one found in RSR

That actually looks a lot like the proto-type one EVOMS made a while back (sort of like their 997TT one) which did yield a few more ponies (minor gains) but it's hard to quantify on a dyno with only a 40mph fan;(

ah ... only if we can use Dr. Ing's wind tunnel and punch some 150+ miles air into the scoop

I know! That's a TechArt car and something unique about that company is they use the very same wind tunnel testing that Porsche does:P
