Best 911 for $40,000?

A friend is trying to get into a used good looking, nice, fun 911 for about $40,000.

What do you guys recommend?

I'd would go with the 06 Caymen S but it's not a 911. Newer year, better interior than a 996 911 (in my opinon) and I also was very impressed with the handling feel.

Can you get a 996? I think some of them are dropping into the 40s

For sure a 996, maybe even a turbo. I'm thinking an RS America could be cool.

get the newest 996 he can afford. likely you'll be able to find a 2003/2004 Carrera with less than 45k miles. or a 2002/2003 Carrera 4S.

I would go with the RSA, or a 965 Turbo but I may be a little biased :-)

Cayman s . A $40K 911 can end up costing 60 if out of warranty repairs pile up . Then try and sell it and he'll get 30K .

40 + 20 (repairs) +10 (loss when bailing out) =70K .

You can either spend more that 40 to get it right fresh out of the gate.
Or you can spend 40 grand and get a cayman s .

Or you can do nothing . Pass up the porsche and wait . Saving the money is good too.

without a doubt, I'd be getting a 996TT, for that price he can probably find an '01 with mid 40-50K miles on it.

Marc, If I was going to invest $40K in a 911, I would seriously consider this machine. Roy at Cats Exotics is a board sponsor and this machine looks tight. It has HRE's Techart front bumber and right in the ball-park for miles and price. Gice Roy a call:http://www.catsexotics.com/web/1317/...0Carrera-Turbo

I would go with Christian's 911 turbo first since it belong to a 6speedonline member and the car looks to be stock as well as well maintain.
