That was an awesome video. It also helps explain why Cup cars need to be rebuilt after every 20 hours.

Unless you don't know how to downshift it, this is an urban legend

I can downshift and we did a new motor and gear box every 6 hours when I was with Subaru! Can't take any chance on a mechanical DNF. The longest I'll go is 20 hours on my vintage Volvo and I ream the **** out of it. 8200 RPM in an antique! (link below)

God I would love a crack in one of those GT3 rally cars!

I was talking about GT3 Cup cars... don't know for Subaru. Ar they made with sequential gearboxes

I race in Group N, so we have a "dog box." I tested a sequential but never raced in one. I rarely used the clutch to shift. It was noisy and clunky but it worked!

As for the race motors...you build the to last just past the finish line!

Any FIA sanctioned rally. I ran Group N in Canada, US and Mexico. The class is still part of the world championship. They are mostly production cars with upgraded suspension, gear box, brakes, etc.

Here is a link to a few shots of this class:

I attached my last Group N car.

Freaking awesome. I've never met anyone who ran La Carrera Panamericana. Would you be kind enough to share details of the experience? I'm moving to Guadalajara soon to study down there & I'd really like to enter that race sometime. Do they all have to be vintage cars? Do you have to be on an actual team or enter independently?

Thanks in advance.

rally vs cup car

how do these differ from the cup cars? i.e. 997 GT3... do they have the same shifters or only manual... suspension changes, etc.?
