New GT3
There are many schools of thought about breaking in a new car, but here's what I follow:
For any new engine/car, drive with varying speed and load (i.e. avoid extended highway driving at a consistent speed/RPM) for the first couple hundred miles. Increase the RPM range and engine load as you drive more. Then around 1k miles do an oil/filter change.
And don't worry too much. Modern engines are designed to withstand some level of abuse by those who are less experienced. Otherwise they would not offer a warranty.

Use the manufacturer's recommendations, vary the rpms, run it slowly to warm it, keep short trips to a minimum and change the oil at or about 2k. There is no concrete evddence that one person's recommendation is the best. People tout certain mileages for break in based on what has worked for them. This does not mean it is the correct method. Unless someone shows me irrefutable proof, other than that old intenet link about breaking in motorcycles snowmbiles, cars, etc... , I'll go with what Porsche recommends. The varying of rpms and longer trips are known facts.
I agree with the process above but for one thing: the oil change. I'd suggest changing the oil for the first time at 500 or so. The reason is because you'd want to get any residual casting material out of the engine, ie sand and other particles. I know, I know, this is a Porsche and they do all that testing, and running the engine at the factory and etc., but its a cheap step to have piece of mind that you got it out for sure instead of relying on a factory line process.

^ I basically subscribe to the early oil change theory, although there is speculation that the oil should remain in the engine during break in to facilitate break in (and I don't mean nor am I suggesting that the oil is a special "break in" oil; as it's just Mobile One 0W-40.) and that the filtering process removes enough of the harmful abrasives; it's not fact so I can't support this yet. I was just suggesting that the oil be changed at least by 2k miles. With that said, we all know that break in does not occur at exactly 2k miles, however, it is complete -reportedly- somewhere in that range. Even post 2k miles the revs should be brought up moderately over subsequent miles.
