Consolidated MK1 GT3/RS Mod Thread

I want to get an idea of the top mods for 07/08 MK1 997 GT3 and GT3 RS all on one Thread, especially from you all that have invested and done this. This will help some newbies like myself to get a idea from one single thread on the top mods to consider. Please add your top mods that really make a difference. Sponsors are welcome to help.

This will be - 2 catagories

1. a Street GT3

2. a Tracked GT3

So far for a Street GT3:
SSK Short shift kit? B&M?
LWFW Lightweight Flywheel
LW Pulley? EVO or RSS?
After Mkt Bypass pipe w/ larger tips from Sharkwerks, RSS, GMG or ?
Hardwired for V1 - G-Rides bracket and hardwire fused kit
Wheels and Tires - Brands vary

Well you did restrict it to "mods that really make a difference" and that really thins the options.

I hear good things about adding the Mk2 rear brake cooling ducts. I bought the parts but I haven't put them on yet. Once it warms up a bit more I'll be motivated to do it, but for now I'm not having cooling problems in the spring temperatures.

Thats the nice thing about the GT3...you dont have to spend a bunch of money to make it look nice & drive great.

For my Turbo, I did suspension (ride height, handling), flash, B&M Short shifter etc.
For my GT3...uh, clear bra & Euro GT3 seats

Sharkwerks 3.9 conversion, RSS suspension pieces, TCDesign alignment!! This all started by first purchasing a set of HRE C21's, an RS LWFL and a SW bypass from Alex. After that the 3.9 conversion was the natural next step! I love this fricken motor!!

+1 on the SW 3.9L conversion!

I would also suggest: Roll cage, Racing Seats (or 997 GT2 Bucket Seats which are comfy for both the street and track), 6 Pt Harness, and an extra set of 18" wheels for the fun track days

Track with (some) street best bang for buck:

Cup Car final drive (getting this done as we speak)
Pirelli P Zero Corsa semi slicks - done
Agressive alignment - done
Change out diff to more robust unit - done
Bleed brakes frequently
Castrol SRF brake fluid - done and changed every track day
Braided brake lines - done
Pagid Yellow pads - done
Slotted rotors (stop that darn cracking) - only needed for the front rotors

my GT3 started as a DD car, during this phase I installed this mods:
  1. Clear Bra
  2. Carbon fiber interior and exterior trim parts (I mean a lot of CF)

After one year I took the car to the track and this way a second phase of mods started, More or less in this order:
  1. Race brake solution, race brake pads, steel braided lines, LWFW, 996 GT3 track seats, GT3 OEM rollbar, rennline pedals, rennline race floor, sharkwerks bypass and software, 18" wheels and R compound tires, track alignment, weight balance and track ride height, semisolid Wevo engine mounts, 6 point track seatbelts, rear brake ducts, coming: full suspension... solid bushings, dogbones, toe bar, motons and springs, shorter gear ratios, upgraded differential... maybe later 3.9L sharkwerks upgrade (prepare to spend a lot in consumables: tires, brake pads, brake rotors....)

Oh yes, if you run a standard GT3 (is there such a thing???) the best seats on the planet are the one piece (CGT) carbon seats with nomex that come standard in the ROW 997.1RS, they are absolutely fantastic on the track as you spend little energy holding yourself into the seat, and for someone with an L4/L5 back problem, these seats beat everything for support... I recently sat in my friends 997TT on a long drive back from the track after my RS had to be towed back... and I can tell you my back did not fair well in those luxo barge seats....

These seats keep you planted on the track, have stunning back support and are extremely light to boot.... a great upgrade if you dont have them already installed from the factory.
