No you got it right! Its an ok car but if they had made a few more of them I don't think people would be that fascinated with it.

I think those that are not impressed are missing the historical relevancy of the 959. Sure a 2010 Turbo will leave a 959 for dead but who cares. A new GTI is also probably faster and a lot higher tech than a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.

Uh, nope, but I get your point and you are spot on - for some it is about heritage. I love the 959 for what it was - even the whole DOT/EPA drama and folks driving them anyhow.

Not interesting to me, however, as a driver today. I love my Carrera GT and I just would find no joy nor intrigue with a 959 sadly....... So she would sit in the garage....

That car was hot. Now its kind of looking at an old Playboy photo and wondering what the hell you were looking at back then. Needs bigger wheels....or something.

I agree. It's the historical relevance. The 959 in its day was "the Porsche". 16" and maybe 17" wheels were the order of the day.
An old fart like me remembers puting 15" Gotti wheels on my 1986 911 (930) "single" turbo and thinking it was hot.
It's all relative and historic to appreciate the evolutionary steps of the Porsche breed.

+1 to Ranger and Brownan, the 959 was THE Porsche back in the day. I know I had a poster on the wall!!!

In its day it was THE PORSCHE and a test platform for many things to come in future production cars. Twin turbo, AWD, side intercoolers, driver adjustable
suspension, twin cam 4 valve water cooled heads, center lock wheels, composite body panels, double wishbone front and rear suspension, with a total official production of 329. Even more so rare since non were legal in the US until the passage of the show and display exemption. The front end bodywork was incorporated the 993 and then revived in the 997. Of course a Carrera GT is a better car but it's almost 20 years newer.

I bet it is awesome. Sure the CGT is a brilliant car. But in my opinion too fast for the streets. I bet this thing is unbelievable fun. A/C to boot. To me this is a drivers car, for someone who appreciates rowing through the gears, heel and toeing, with some fun double clutching. It also has that sense of danger. There aren't any namby pamby TC computers or airbags, just raw. Just mechanical ingenuity and grip. Something that I think is lost on most modern cars and unfortunately modern drivers.
