Pirelli Corsas vs Michelin PS2s

Finally, after 10k miles, I wore down the PS2s (not the MPSCs which don't make sense for a DD IMO). I went w/ the PS2s because at the time production stopped on the Corsas or they weren't otherwise available.

Anyway, I hated the PS2s from day one (you can go back and see my posts at the time) and I've never warmed up to them. In a word, they suck. They were replaced w/ the Coras last Friday and the difference is night and day. If anybody out there is ever thinking abut PS2s or something similar, don't. The GT3 was intended to have these tires so don't put anything less on your car. It's like hooking up a set of cheap speakers to a high-end amplifier.

My only hope is that the Corsas are still available when it's time for another set.

Cheers,

Interesting comment Roland.

I have not driven the Corsas, but I have no problem in PS2 with dry or wet road, or wet track use in my other 911s.

It will be interesting to see how long they last and whether you still like them as they enter their mid-life crisis!

We have done extensive testing and development on the Corsa tire with Pirelli.

The Corsa is about 1.5 seconds faster than the PSCup at a track like WSIR on a completely stock 997.2 GT3.. Its new technology and has lower tread wear rating.

Just my .02 cents

My car originally came w/ Corsas and I liked them right up the bitter end (i.e., cords starting to show!), so I'm familiar with them throughout their life. Then I got the PS2s because the Corsas were not available and because MPSCs are not an option for me -- they just don't make sense unless on the track IMO, and my car is a DD, not a track car.

Keep in mind ... my comments on the PS2s are relative to the Corsas. There's nothing wrong with the PS2s in the absolute. All just my opinion of course, the Corsas have noticably better turn-in, are more stable in higher speed turns (car tended to wander a bit w/ the PS2s), and have better overall grip is higher as to be expected given the softer compound. What's not an opinion is that -- for me -- the Corsas inspire much more confidence.

Admittedly, when it's raining I do like the PS2s over the Corsas (I can recall a few white-knuckle moments w/ my previous set of Corsas) but the other trade-offs between the tires don't justify the rain benefit for me.

Anyway, again, just my 2cents on the matter so take it FWIW, which is just another forum opinion.

Cheers,

Did you have Corsa or Corsa Systems? Is there a difference? I tried to order a set of Corsa System tires. No luck.

I'm with you, the Pirelli Corsa System is far better tire.

I have them in my 996 and Maserati for DD with no complaints. The car fells completely different, the steering is much more precise. So much better that you can play a little bit with the alignment.

The even work very nice in wet conditions.

When the time comes to change them...yes back to Corsa.

Your comparo is apples to oranges. Corsas are R-compound, PS2's are not. I love the Corsas on my GT3, especially on the track. I have PS2's on my Carrera, they are excellent on the street, but suck on the track because obviously not R-compound. Never tried the MPSC and have no interest. Looking forward to trying the trofeo's after this set of Corsas.

True in the matter of the compound, but I had them on my SL500 and don't get me wrong, the are good, but for the price and brand you could expect more.

The fact remains that the Pirelli is far better.

an alternative is the bridgestone re-11's. many here and on other forums use them for both track/street and at quite a cost savings. i actually like them better than the stock mpsc's and they work great in the rain as well.

The RE-11's 305/30/19 are 6 lbs heavier each than the Corsas! Full set Vs full set, the RE-11's are almost $1K cheaper, though.

My car came with corsas, and they are amazing tires. The best of street and track tire into one. Better than MPSC in the track, and the same if not better than PS2's in the rain.

At 6K miles, I had about maybe 1K miles left on my rear corsas and 50% thread in the fronts. (5K street miles and 1K track miles). I just replaced the rears with new corsas... amazing tires.

Well, the way I drive the last set of PZero Rosso lasted aprox. 8K miles.

I figure that the Corsa will be change in about 3,500 to 4K. If they last longer I will be impressed.

When talking tires, my budget is the least of my worries. Remember that is the only thing keeping you in control.

It's like selecting a helmet...You are protecting your head...how much are you willing to spend to protect your brain cells. Believe me I have seen people purchase the cheapest helmet out there, no certification etc....

Your safety...your budget....Good tires all the time.

That is a very good estimation. I experienced the same tire life. When I had Pzeros, and on my last set of corsas.
