MK1 GT3RS or MK2 GT3?

So I am finally looking to get into the Porsche world but I am torn between the MK1 GT3RS or the MK2 GT3. This car would not be a daily driven car and it would see the track probably 5-6 times a year. Could some of you guys educate me on the pros and cons of each car. I tried to find an old thread that has something like this but I came up empty handed. If there was a thread like this then please post the link here.

I look forward in hearing some comments from you guys.

TIA

Don

For appeal, the 997.1 GT3RS is still a GT3RS with wider hips and special colors/decals (though the front LED strips and taillamps of the 997.2 GT3 do catch people's eyes.) And the first 997.1 GT3RS owners already paid for the first years of depreciation, a good thing as far as money is considered.

For driving, Porsche does make quite some updates on the 997.2 GT3 -- PSM (a good thing for most of us, frankly), PASM (dare I say its ride is quite comfortable), the bigger displacement 3.8L engine (came with full 4yr/50K factory warranty), bigger front steel brakes (and the dino-center-nut wheels), PCM 3.0 (the touch screen makes things easier in the cabin), available dynamic engine mount (proabably just psychological, but I do feel it works), available front axle lifting system (a God Sent if we live in places that have deep driveways), Bluetooth and Universal Audio Interface (sure, why not), etc.

At the end of the day, if money and appeal rule the consideration, the 997.1 GT3RS sounds like a winning choice. Otherwise, the 997.2 GT3 does have little improvements here & there that add up to make a difference in driving.

Really cannot lose in either choice.

With best regards,

It might depend on what you are coming out of - the 997.2 GT3 is probably an easier car to drive and it has been improved in many small but significant ways (especially PSM). Either car will deliver impressive performance that unless you are really going to challenge the car and yourself, you will have no regrets with the newer car. The GT3 is less in your face and easier to drive on the street but that's personal preference.

Drive both and then choose. They are both great and the gen 2 car does have some nice improvements. To me the biggest difference is the 3.8 motor...that said I would probably get a gen 1 RS.
