Help! noise from my 996 gt3

Hello everyone; I purchased a 996 gt3 about six months ago after reading about them and getting advice on this forum. I love the car. It now has 20k mi. and has always had an unusual rattling sound that seems to be coming from the rear drive side of the engine. I had 2 ppi's and they both gave it a clean bill of health. I recently noticed both exhaust tips were askew. When adjusting them, the left exhaust pipe that holds the tip was loose. I thought I found the source but it's still rattling. I didn't buy the car for it's quiet ride but is this normal?Should I be concerned? I don't live near a dealer or indie shop so I'd rather not waste time and money if this is "normal". Thanx for any help.

Tell us more about the rattle. In gear moving or just in neutral @ Idle. Does it vary with RPM??

shake, rattle and roll

Good questions: The rattle begins after a cold start when the engine goes to slow idle. It is also noticeable with acceleration and deceleration. I don't notice it when turning. Thanx for any help

Does the noise go away by depressing the clutch?

jehu- Do you notice it once the car is warmed up thoroughly? On C2's Darin at Fister Motorsport mentioned the welds in muffler internals can break lose overtime causing rattle when muffler is cold. I had this on one of Fister modd'd mufflers I bought from them, and they took the muffler back and opened it up to repaired the internal broken weld (it has nothing to do with the mod, he mentioned some 996 mufflers exhibit this problem over time).

I don't know what the similarities of GT3 vs. C2 mufflers, but give Fister Motorsport a call and Darin is good guy, so he will help if it's muffler related.

Yup, i'd put money on the baffles in the muffler coming apart as well. Very common issue. I've also seen the cats come loose in their housings as well, though it will eventually pop a CEL.

raspy noise

I find my car makes all sorts of raspy noises when I first start it up. Part of the charm. This car makes race car horsepower and can idle in traffic with the a/c on. It's not a Mercedes.

Hey, thanks for the questions and input. The noise does not stop with any clutch action. It is not so noticeable when cold but seems to get worse when engine has been warmed up. It is not a raspy sound, that sound I like, it is a rattle, like something is loose. I like the idea of something loose in the muffler. I will have that checked out, maybe get a different system.
