997.1 GT2 or 997.2 GT3rs?

I was getting close to pulling the trigger on a GT2 but over the last few weeks I've seen a bunch of GT3rs come on the market at pretty good prices. I've seen them anywhere from $15K to $26K off MSRP, all with less than 2000 miles. Bottom line is I can get a loaded GT3rs for around $130K (original MSRP $156K) which is also the sweet spot for low mileage GT2s.

It will probably spend most of its live on the street, with some occasional track days. I know that's heresy, I'm just looking for a pure car to drive on the weekends. I have another dedicated track car and a supercharged e90 M3 for my daily. This will be my first pcar since 1996 so any thoughts on the differences would be appreciated.

I had a SC E92 M3...have 2010 GT3 now. Just depends what you want out of your car. Both cars are amazing. I have always been a NA guy...just prefer the sounds and feel. The GT2 could be made very fast, so depends if you want a power house.

BTW what SC do you have on the M3? Are you on an M3 forum?

I have the ESS VT-575 with a full akra exhaust. It's a great daily with DCT. Hauls kids, etc. I looked at Gintani because they are local but ultimately had more confidence in ESS because they had so many more kits installed. AA wasn't out at the time and GPower seemed like they had some bugs to work out. I'm really happy with it, although I'm told the Gintani makes more power. I've never dynoed it so I don't know how much the kit is making.

I do go on M3forum once in awhile but I spend more time on bimmerpost in the M3 section. Same username.

Nice. I had the Gintani SC kit ran great, fast as hell. But can't compare M3 to GT3. But you will have both! What is your dedicated track car? Maybe that could help people with their input.

Have you driven a GT2 or GT3 ?

I have a 2700 lb, 500 hp Evo 8 with cage, fuel cell, data logger, etc. and a former Grand Am street stock Mini Cooper. I drove the Evo back to back with a 997 Rolex cup car on the Miller West track and I was almost 2 seconds faster in the Evo. Plus it's a lot cheaper to operate that a Cup car.

I've driven a 997.1 GT3 and Cup car. I've ridden in a 997.2 GT3. Haven't actually driven the 997.2 rs or a GT2. If you know someone in Orange County that is willing to give me a lift I'd be stoked!

WOW...got some nice cars! Ive seen stripped evo's destroy just about anything at the track.

Dont know anyone w/ those cars in OC. I'd say you could check out mine but its just a regulat gt3 and im in LA.

Goodluck...you got a tough decision. Since you already have turbo'd cars id say get the GT3RS N/A FTW!. But seems like you are used to fast cars, im sure the 2700lbs 500hp evo hauls ***...so you might need the GT2 to get your thrills.

For mainly street use, I will pick the GT2 for you.

For street driving only, my RS is the least favorite Porsche among my collection.

Agree with Ajag. I have a 2004 Subaru WRX STI that's at 378 wftlbs and 346 whp. It's a rush and very fast, and when I wanted to upgrade, I knew it had to be a GT2, based on drives in 997 tt's. Stock it's a screamer and I just upgraded with the EVOMS 600, which livened it up even more. You will love it, trust us.
