Unplugged Exhaust Valves
Unplugged Exhaust Valves
Wow. Just unplugged the sensor that controls exhaust flapper valves. Now open all the timie. What an improvement in sound! Anybody esle done this and is there any benefits/drawbacks from this?
There might be a very slight loss of low end power but it is not really noticeable.
Are you running the stock exhaust? Or, do you have a bypass pipe?
Sounds even better when you run a bypass and there is no drone at all.

Please describe procedure. Photos? Thanks.

Done. Many thanks. I'll have to wait to see any difference - weather. My car is an 11 RS. Allan

Sport button on opens flaps but not all the time, try it and you will see. My issue was that I always want more sound, and the flaps from time to time would get stuck closed on one side. I just don't like all this "flapping" and just want open all the time. My only question left is does this compromise any performance having them open the whole time. So far it is amazing and the sound is just what I want!

When my sport button is off, the valves open automatically at 4k. If you are running through the gears, you can hear a noticeable difference the volume once you surpass 4k.
When the sport button is on, the valves are open (loud sound) all the time. At least they appear to be. Even when its idling, you can turn the sport button on and hear the difference in sound.
So I don't really get the point if you can just hit the button. Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly.
I don't understand what you're talking about.

No sport buttin they just open at some an RPM higher than 4K
If you do not have a bypass pipe set up, I am not sure I would unplug them. The car has a drone on teh highway with them unplugged and no bypass pipe.
Moral of the story
step 1, call Alex and order bypass pipes
step 2, install bypass pipes
step 3, unplug valves
When you hit the sport button it opens the valves at idle.....then they close upon acceleration....and open back up at 4K

I guesstimated the rpm.....I completed step one before I bought my car
I currently have a center muffler bypass pipe installed. That was my first mod! Money well spent. The car sounds the way it should have from the factory.
So if I am understanding this correctly, by not unplugging the valve, the exhaust remains quiet from just above idle to 3k and then opens up when in sport mode?
Hardly seems worth it. If you are getting on it hard, you'll be well north of 5k the whole time anyway resulting in the "loud" setting. Considering there is a probably a little torque loss keeping the valve open in the low revs, I'm not sure its worth it. Porsche probably setup sport mode like that for a reason.
Meh... I'm leaving mine alone
